About 300 employees work at the prison. The largest occupational group is prison officers, but the prison also employs managers, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, service technicians, etc. The prison accommodates approximately 275 inmates who are engaged in activities such as education, treatment programs, or work within the prison.

At Norrtälje Prison, we prioritize a health-promoting work environment and offer, for example, a staff gym and the opportunity to be a member of our local sports club. The prison, located on the outskirts of Norrtälje (about 1.5 km from the Norrtälje bus station), is easily accessible by bus or car, and you can park for free in our staff parking.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a prison officer in the prison's surveillance center (BC) and access control (IPK), you will have a varied job focusing on safety and security. In BC, you monitor the prison via a camera system and communicate alarms in the operation via computer and communication systems. In the prison's IPK, you receive both staff and visitors, who are checked using X-ray equipment. You will work alternately in BC and IPK in close collaboration with your colleagues. The position involves varied tasks within surveillance, coordination, technical support, and communication, including handling both internal and external contacts. Working hours are varied, with shifts scheduled alternately during the day and night in different periods.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is observant, has an easy time collaborating, and communicates clearly. You act with good judgment and adapt your behavior to the situation. The role requires you to focus on the right things and remain calm, stable, and controlled in stressful situations, such as when an alarm is triggered.

It is important for us that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in human development. You are aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally through your approach. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
  • Work experience (internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment).
  • Normal color vision
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form
  • Knowledge of English in spoken form
  • Good computer skills

It is advantageous to have:

  • Work experience or knowledge in technology/IT
  • Experience handling X-ray equipment
  • Experience in security or surveillance work
  • Experience in alarm coordination
  • Experience acting simultaneously with computer and communication systems, for example in customer service, alarm center, or similar
