At the Academy of Textiles, Technology and Economics, research and education are conducted in business administration, industrial economics, resource recovery, urban development, and within the textile field: design, management, and technology.
The academy comprises five departments: the Department of Business Administration and Textile Management, the Department of Engineering, the Department of Resource Recovery and Urban Development, the Department of Textile Technology, and the Department of Design, as well as a division for Textile Labs. The Textile University, along with the center formation, the Center for Sustainable Urban Development, are other important activities within the academy. The academy also hosts two doctoral schools, one in Resource Recovery and one in Textile and Fashion.
Research Focus
Research in design within the textile and fashion area deals with artistic design research with a strong focus on deepening the understanding of the interplay between analysis and synthesis in the design process, as a basis for the development of design methodology, design techniques, and design programs. The research approach is primarily experimental, for design through design, where the development of methodology, programs, and techniques requires critically experimental artistic work.
The doctoral position is an announcement within the research profile TexAI – Knowledge in AI-Driven Innovation for Circular Ecosystems in the Textiles and Fashion Industry, funded by the KK Foundation. TexAI is an interdisciplinary research and innovation initiative conducted in collaboration between the research areas of Textiles and Fashion and Business and IT. The overarching aim is to integrate AI-driven solutions within textile technology, textile and fashion design, textile management, and business-oriented IT to drive the green transition within the textile and fashion industry. The project is conducted in close collaboration between academia and industry.
The research area in design aims to develop, deepen, and critically illuminate the role of generative and agentic AI in design practice, as a tool, mediator, and collaborator in the fields of fashion design and active wear. The research aims to explore how AI can change prevailing notions of design as an activity and craft through data-driven processes and experiments, thereby opening new avenues for defining design concepts, methods, and results where AI is viewed as an integrated material in design practice.
In addition to doctoral studies and research within the TexAI profile, participation in the development of the artistic research environment in general at the Textile University and the University of Borås is also included.
