The detention center in Varberg and Halmstad is looking for someone who wants to work as a detention guard this summer, who has a calm, professional demeanor and a great interest in working with people. PO Halland

The Halland Police Area is one of five police areas in the West Police Region, headquartered in Halmstad. The Halland Police Area extends over six municipalities and is divided into four local police areas: Halmstad, Falkenberg, Varberg, and Kungsbacka. At the police area level, there is an investigation section and a police area administration.

LPO Halmstad

The Local Police Area Halmstad is part of the Halland Police Area. Within the local police area, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups, as well as support and service.

LPO Varberg

The Local Police Area Varberg is part of the Halland Police Area. Within the local police area, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups, as well as support and service.

We are now looking for someone who wants to work as a detention guard in Halmstad or Varberg as a summer substitute. Travel and work in both locations may occur. In your application, you choose your preferred placement location, please note that we cannot guarantee your preferred location.

Job Responsibilities

Do you want to be at the center of events? Do you have great patience, enjoy meeting people, and see it as a given to act based on equal treatment and the police's values? Now you have the chance to work as a detention guard with us this summer.

As a detention guard, you will be part of a smaller group of detention guards led by a group leader. You will work with supervision and monitoring of detained individuals and participate in searches, sampling, body searches, photography, evidence collection, and fingerprinting. Your responsibilities will also include monitoring and transporting individuals who need to be interrogated or transported. The handling of the detained individuals must be done in a correct and legally secure manner. Other administrative tasks that support the operation may occur.

There may be an opportunity for hourly employment after the summer.

Qualifications

This is an opportunity for you who have:

• a completed high school diploma or what the employer assesses as equivalent

• a great interest in working with people and see a challenge in that the work can sometimes be demanding

• a B driver's license (manual)

• a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English

It is an advantage if you also:

• are a student at the Police Academy and have completed the self-defense and law courses with passing results, this merit is particularly advantageous.

• have completed the police detention guard training with passing results

• have completed the correctional education with passing results

• have a valid security guard training

• have previous work experience in meeting people in vulnerable and/or problematic situations, for example from healthcare, psychiatry, school, correctional services, security guard, orderly guard, or protective guard

• have experience with administrative tasks such as documentation skills

Personal qualities:

We are looking for someone who acts with maturity, integrity, and can behave calmly and professionally even in stressful situations. You have good self-awareness, empathetic ability, and can adapt your approach and demeanor for conflict prevention. As a detention guard, you apply a high level of security awareness, which means you are reliable in situations where physical violence may arise, and you are skilled at both collaborating and working independently depending on the situation. The role requires you to prioritize and quickly switch between tasks and pace, as well as take initiative in your work. Since the job involves physical work, we also require good physical fitness.

We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.

Other information

A prerequisite for being considered for employment is that you are available to work the entire period from June 8 to August 30, 2026. If you are considered for employment, you do not have the right to vacation leave. Instead, you will receive vacation pay after the employment ends.

Occasional shorter leave with pay deduction may be granted if the operation allows it and then by agreement with the manager.
