Building Permit Officer at Varberg Municipality

We are Varberg Municipality, the employer that sees the possibilities in you. Here, you can make a difference, both for others and for yourself. We are driven by the idea of simplifying people's everyday lives and realizing their dreams. We do this with the help of knowledge, innovative courage, and a forward-thinking spirit. Welcome to contribute to our vision – to become the creative hub of the West Coast.

With a well-developed and transparent community building process, the City Planning Office plays a central role in shaping the future of Varberg. Our mission is to create sustainable living environments where the city's growth and the needs of the residents meet in the best possible way.

We are located in modern activity-based premises in the newly renovated city hall, together with other community-building activities, which provides good opportunities for collaboration and exchange of experiences.

About 90 employees work with us, distributed across five departments – building permits, planning, geographic information, quality and development, and the municipality's land surveying – all contributing to the development of Varberg for both today's and tomorrow's residents.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a building permit officer, you will review building permit applications based on both formal regulations and suitability and design, and actively participate in the department's development work in these matters. The role includes making decisions on building permits by delegation, providing service to the public in the form of advice and information, and presenting cases before the building committee. Handling supervision cases and administrative tasks related to building permits may also occur. The building permit department is characterized by a clear focus on helping our citizens, businesses, and visitors, and you are expected to thrive and contribute in such an environment. We offer a good working community and a healthy work environment with high trust in each other and significant influence over daily work.

QUALIFICATIONS

The work involves a lot of contact with building permit applicants and other stakeholders. You show respect and consideration for those you meet in your professional role. You start from everyone's equal value and create a good atmosphere in meetings. You have an open and positive attitude, with the customer's needs as the starting point for your actions.

You work efficiently, can balance different demands, and remain calm in difficult situations. You are quick, productive, and motivated, with a strong commitment and enthusiasm for your work. You take initiative and responsibility for moving work forward, whether you work alone or together with others.

To thrive in the job, you need to be able to work in a structured manner as you handle cases in different phases. You set clear goals and plan activities and projects in good time. You use time effectively and work systematically, organized, and methodically. You ensure that work is completed and follow up on results.

In the building department, we have a positive work climate where we work together, support, and stand up for each other. It is important for us within the team and the building department that we care for one another. A good work environment means we do better work for those we are here for. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is responsible towards yourself, your colleagues, and the customer. As an employee, you contribute to the department's development work.
