Job Advertisement: International Coordinator for Food Security

Everyone in Sweden should have safe food and drinking water – even in times of crisis or war. The Swedish Food Agency plays a crucial role, and we are now ramping up our efforts. Would you like to contribute to our capability-building work and the establishment of a new food security strategy? Here’s your chance to work with the international dimension of preparedness efforts and make a difference!

Unit for Food Supply

The position is located at the unit for food supply, and the international preparedness work is conducted in collaboration with several relevant units within the agency. We lead the establishment of a new food security strategy. We work with national coordination of crisis and preparedness planning for food supply, in the stages following primary production. We support municipalities, regions, and businesses in their work with food supply. We collaborate closely with the food industry through various projects, as well as through the public-private partnership group within the food chain that the Swedish Food Agency is responsible for. The unit for food supply is one of five units within the department for food and drinking water supply. The department works to enhance capabilities in drinking water and food supply.

Your Role

As a team member, you will manage and develop the international collaborations and commitments that the Swedish Food Agency has. This includes drafting materials, participating in and negotiating in working groups and networks within, for example, the EU, NATO, and the Nordic countries regarding food security. The position also involves analytical work on legislation, international trade and supply chains, as well as national dependencies and vulnerabilities, and contributing to the unit's other work. You will be part of a competent and engaged team where collaboration, knowledge sharing, and initiative are in focus.

You are expected to work independently and be accustomed to collaborating in various constellations to fulfill your tasks. You should also be comfortable representing the agency and Sweden in various international forums. The area is under strong development, which means that the nature of the work may shift over time. The competencies and experiences you bring with you and acquire are of great importance for the shaping of the work.

Together with your colleagues, you will take responsibility for the organization’s common mission and resources as well as the needs of target groups. Furthermore, you will make thoughtful priorities in your work and deliver according to set goals. You will monitor the external environment to gain new perspectives, maintain relevant competencies, and adapt your work to the organization’s requirements and conditions. It is important that you stay updated and follow trends by engaging with, for example, research.

Your Competence

We are looking for someone with an academic education that the employer deems relevant. Food security is part of Sweden's total defense and an important aspect of defense and crisis preparedness planning among our allies. To succeed in this position, good knowledge of security policy and EU processes is required.

Familiarity with the Swedish conditions for operations within the preparedness sector of food supply and drinking water, experience in governmental work, policy work, and experience from working within or with EU institutions are advantageous.

You should have excellent knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written. Experience handling classified information is a merit.

Your Personal Qualities

As a person, you are communicative and maintain high quality in presentations and information sharing, both in front of an audience and in written materials. You are comfortable analyzing both numerical and verbal information and handle and utilize unclear situations positively. Creating and maintaining relationships and networks comes naturally to you. To function in the role, where meeting other people with different backgrounds is central, requires humility and the ability to empathize with the target group’s situation.

You act responsibly, collaboratively, and developmentally. You are solution-focused and invite and are open to collaborations and new perspectives that improve our deliveries. You enjoy working in a team and are open to new working methods, sharing knowledge and lessons learned to strengthen our collective capability.
