Kriminalvården is looking for Correctional Officers for the Transport Department

Kriminalvården is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.

The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising detained individuals. It is Kriminalvården's clients who are moved between remand facilities and prisons, to court hearings, and hospitals, among other places. TA also transports detained individuals for the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, and psychiatric services. You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in Kriminalvården's mandatory basic training, which lasts for 8 weeks. You will also be trained in the use of OC spray and baton. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your eligibility for permanent employment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Correctional Officer within the Transport Department (TA), you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, where everyone is responsible for different roles in the execution of client transports. The roles assigned in the workgroup are driver, transport officer, and transport leader. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. You will search, restrain with handcuffs, and supervise the client during transport.

Information about working hours

TA's assignments are varied, which means that your working hours may vary from day to day. Evening, night, and weekend work may be included. The times in the schedule are frame times, usually 07:30-17:00. Nationally, it is more common to finish before the frame time ends, and in most cases, you will have an unchanged start time. Frame time means that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes are communicated before the previous work shift ends. For example, a shift may be between 07:00-19:00 (12 hours) or 09:00-16:00 (7 hours). Working hours are reviewed every three months. If you have worked more than planned, you will receive overtime compensation. If you have worked less than planned, you will still receive your normal salary.

QUALIFICATIONS

The role places high demands on personal suitability. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values regarding a humane view of individuals, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change. You need to have good physical fitness to handle a sedentary job and to be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

• A completed high school education or other education combined with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant.
• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• Good computer skills.
• A valid driver's license (B) and good driving experience.
• Good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience in relevant areas, such as corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, healthcare, and service professions.
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Other relevant language skills.
• A valid driver's license (C).
