ST Physician Wanted at NU Healthcare

NU Healthcare is part of the Västra Götaland region and is one of Sweden's larger county hospitals. We are located at NÄL (Norra Älvsborg County Hospital) in Trollhättan and Uddevalla Hospital. The hospital's catchment area includes 280,000 residents. Together, we are about 5,000 employees working every day to provide good and safe specialist healthcare. We are located on the west coast, and our area offers varied nature with both sea, mountains, forests, and lakes.

We are looking for ST Physicians starting in Spring/Fall 2026!

AnOpIVA

The hospital has three operating departments with a total of 22 operating rooms, as well as an intensive care unit with 8 beds and 4 intermediate care places.

The operations are divided between NÄL (Norra Älvsborg County Hospital, Trollhättan) and Uddevalla Hospital, covering a wide range of intensive care and surgical activities; general surgery, urology, vascular surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, and ENT, as well as services to internal medicine, cardiology, dental/jaw surgery, radiology, and psychiatry. There is also a pain management team.

The operations also have a significant educational mission for physicians in training. There are about 50 permanently employed physicians, and within the operations, there are three primary on-call lines and one backup on-call line. In line with the development plan for NU Healthcare, the operations will develop in the direction that NÄL further profiles itself towards acute surgical operations and heavier surgery, while Uddevalla will profile itself towards urology, elective orthopedics, and extensive day surgery.

Job Responsibilities

Common job responsibilities for licensed physicians in anesthesia and intensive care. The position as a junior doctor/ST also involves structured training under supervision, leading to specialist competence in Anesthesia and Intensive Care according to the national training book. This also includes some time for side training at university hospitals.

Qualifications

Medical degree and Swedish medical license. Previous experience in anesthesia and/or intensive care, or other emergency care is preferred. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. Applications are considered incomplete if proof of Swedish medical license or a certificate from the employer stating that AT training is ongoing is not attached.

Miscellaneous

After the initial selection, candidates will be invited for an interview at NÄL. The position starts with a 6-month temporary contract with the possibility of permanent employment as an ST physician.
