Occupational Therapist to the Öster Reception

Welcome to a pleasant workplace characterized by openness, good community, humor, and joy at work. The Öster Reception is part of the Psychiatric Center at Västmanlands Hospital in Västerås.

Job Responsibilities

As an occupational therapist with us, you will be part of the reception's interdisciplinary team of about 15 employees with different competencies working together around the patient. You will be responsible for the occupational therapy assignment and participate in regular treatment conferences to contribute to a common and cohesive working method. In this role, you will work both independently and in close collaboration with other professional categories. You will assess and evaluate patients' activity abilities and support needs, write reports, and assess the need for, prescribe, and follow up on assistive devices, such as cognitive aids and weighted products. You will also implement treatment interventions for increased activity balance, often with psychoeducational elements.

The work includes both shorter and longer treatment contacts over time, individually and in groups. Home visits may occur as well as collaboration with other actors and the patient's network. Occupational therapists within adult psychiatry have regular joint meetings and supervision.

If you have an interest in the target group and want to help develop the future of psychiatry, we offer a role and an introduction that is tailored together and adapted to your needs and interests.

Opportunity for a Role as Rehabilitation Coordinator

In the role of occupational therapist, there is also the opportunity to work as a rehabilitation coordinator at the reception. As a rehabilitation coordinator, you support sick-listed patients in the rehabilitation process and work to facilitate their return to work or the start of work-oriented rehabilitation.

The role also involves being a support for doctors and other professionals in rehabilitation and sick leave issues, as well as strengthening collaboration between the reception and external actors such as the Social Insurance Agency, the Employment Agency, and employers. There is a regional network for rehabilitation coordinators that offers coordination, support, and supervision.

The role is currently held by a specialist nurse but may become available for an occupational therapist if there is interest and competence among applicants.

About the Workplace

Adult Psychiatry Västmanland is organized into two sections: Outpatient Care and Regional Shared Resources. The Öster psychiatric reception is located at Västmanlands Hospital in Västerås and belongs to the Outpatient Care section. The reception's catchment area includes the eastern districts of Västerås. The target group consists of individuals with psychotic disorders and certain psychosis-related conditions, as well as individuals with certain neuropsychiatric disabilities who simultaneously need specialist psychiatric care and treatment.

At the reception, dedicated employees from several professions work together, such as doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists/rehabilitation coordinators, medical secretaries, and unit managers. The workgroup is stable, with many experienced employees while new colleagues are also joining.

For us, it is important that you feel good and enjoy your job; therefore, we offer you:

  • a tailored introduction program with a mentor to help you feel secure in your professional role
  • opportunities for internal and external training
  • a workplace for different stages of life with flexible working hours within given frameworks
  • free training at our fully equipped gym
  • wellness allowance of 3000 SEK/year
