The Water and Wastewater Department at Karlstad Municipality is responsible for the municipality's water and sewage facilities.

We produce drinking water, treat wastewater, and manage stormwater. Additionally, we ensure a functioning pipeline network. The water sector faces exciting challenges to sustainably meet future demands.

The laboratory is organizationally part of the Water unit but also works for the Sewage unit and is based at Sjöstadsverket. The laboratory consists of two people and is responsible for sampling and analysis of samples. The position is a temporary contract lasting until mid-2027.

Responsibilities

In this role, the focus is on the wastewater treatment process, but you will also work towards drinking water production in Karlstad Municipality. In close collaboration with operational staff and engineers, you will work to ensure well-functioning drinking water preparation and wastewater treatment.

The tasks are varied and consist of both administrative and practical elements:

On the drinking water side, water sampling is performed at water treatment plants and water towers, drinking water sampling from subscribers, as well as physical, chemical, and bacteriological analyses in the operational lab.
On the wastewater side, physical and chemical analyses are performed on wastewater and treatment plant sludge.
The position includes ordering the necessary analyses from an accredited laboratory. Results from samples sent to an accredited laboratory are followed up.

You will work alongside an experienced laboratory engineer colleague, engaged operational staff, and supportive environmental and process engineers.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who enjoys working both independently and in a team. You like to take responsibility and have a personal drive that enables you to take initiative within your role. In your position, it is important to be skilled in verbal and written communication, as the organization needs to have a common understanding of the situation. You should be easy to collaborate with and have a good ability to find solutions to problems. You are practically oriented, have a sense of order, and work systematically.

We are looking for someone who has:

a scientific or equivalent education at least at the high school level
work experience in a laboratory
experience in planning and documenting your work
experience in result follow-up
good computer skills
a valid driver's license (B)
