Teaching Assistant at Valdemarsro Gymnasium

Valdemarsro is a specialized high school with high ambitions – we are currently looking for an engaged teaching assistant who wants to make a difference.

Responsibilities

As a teaching assistant, you are expected to work alongside other staff to create an accessible learning environment that provides each student with the best possible conditions for learning and development.

In your role, you will collaborate with the responsible educator to plan and participate in the educational work. You have an important task in supporting and promoting students' academic and personal development, both at group and individual levels. At Valdemarsro, you will support students during lessons as well as during breaks, which also count as educational time. You will work to facilitate learning and follow up on interventions based on each student's individual needs. The tasks may also include short-term supervision and other relevant duties within the school.

The position also includes care tasks such as personal care, physical lifting, and transfers. It may also involve working with students who exhibit challenging behavior.

We work cross-professionally, and you will have close collaboration with student health, teachers, school management, and students regarding the student's progression and development. It is therefore important that you have both the desire and ability to build good relationships with colleagues and students. For us, it is a given that you have a positive view of students and see each student from a holistic perspective.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Completed and approved high school education with a focus on health and care or child and leisure, or another equivalent education
• Digital competence that means it is natural to use digital tools as work instruments and aids
• Good Swedish in speech and writing.

Desirable:

• Education and knowledge about cognitive, physical, and/or psychosocial difficulties
• Education and knowledge about AAC (alternative and augmentative communication)
• Experience working with individuals with multiple disabilities, both intellectual and physical
• Experience with self-care assignments
• Experience working with individuals with physically challenging behavior.

As a teaching assistant at Valdemarsro, you are a stable and attentive person with good collaborative skills. You have pedagogical insight, are relationship-building, and easily adapt to changes – always with the student's best interests in focus.
