The National Forensic Centre is a department within the Police Authority. In close collaboration with the investigative operations, the department leads, develops, and performs forensic work for successful crime fighting. The department is responsible for the entire forensic process within the police - from crime scene investigations, laboratory activities, and IT forensics to forensic expert opinions in criminal cases. The assignment also includes acting as expert support and conducting training, strategic research, and development to future-proof the police's forensic capabilities.
The Image Biometrics group primarily works with biometric database searches. Today, a method has been implemented, searching for facial images, where images of unknown perpetrators are matched using facial recognition technology against the description database to generate leads for criminal investigations regarding who the person might be. The group is also responsible for seizing and developing new methods and opportunities within the biometric field, such as the introduction of new databases and additional biometrics based on images and videos. Related to this, they work with method development, requirements specifications, quality assurance, training, as well as investigation and analysis.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will primarily work on performing database searches of facial images to identify unknown perpetrators related to criminal investigations. You will also participate in conducting research and method development in the field. You will be part of extensive work currently underway to develop methods for new biometrics and new databases. In your daily work, you will have many contacts with colleagues throughout the police force. In some cases, you may be required to testify as an expert in court.
Examples of job responsibilities:
- Perform forensic investigations where facial recognition technology is used for database searches
- Compile, evaluate, and report the results of these investigations
- Communicate with clients
- Develop methods for biometrics related to images and videos
- Train in your area of expertise
- Conduct research/environmental monitoring in the field
During your employment, you will undergo internal training and onboarding before you are authorized to independently perform forensic investigations.
QUALIFICATIONS
This is an opportunity for you who have:
- A degree at least at the bachelor's level in technology or natural sciences with a focus on image analysis or multimedia, or equivalent experience that the employer deems relevant
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both written and spoken
- Good knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken
We consider it an advantage if you also have:
- Experience working with biometrics related to images or videos
- Experience in programming, such as Python
- Experience in statistics
- Experience working with machine learning and development in the image field
- Experience in investigative work in the image field
- Experience in quality assurance and validation
- Experience in method development
