Job Description
Do you want to contribute to a fossil-free future? Do you have experience in software development and an interest in nuclear physics while enjoying a role where you can utilize your analytical skills and develop your technical expertise?
Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel (VNF), part of the Vattenfall Power Solutions (VPS) business unit, plays a crucial role in Vattenfall's work towards fossil-free energy. Our mission is to procure, size, and deliver nuclear fuel to Vattenfall's nuclear power plants. We also provide technical analyses and other expert services in the nuclear fuel area. At VNF, several experienced and dedicated teams work together, bringing various backgrounds and perspectives to achieve our common goal of delivering nuclear fuel to Vattenfall's nuclear power plants and creating conditions for a fossil-free future.
The unit “Methods & Systems” adapts external software to the fuel that VNF procures, as well as creates its own programs and tools that support the core and fuel operations at Vattenfall. These handle parts of technical analyses in areas such as reactor physics, safety analysis, and thermohydraulics. In addition, we manage and develop a few administrative software applications. Within the unit, we combine technical expertise and innovative solutions to drive development forward – both for our work and for the future of energy supply.
There is currently an initiative within VNF and VPS to implement several projects in the areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning. This entails greater responsibility for development in this area and an opportunity to steer the direction of this initiative. Relevant areas include numerical methods such as neural networks, as well as language models and their applications.
We offer you the opportunity to work on exciting, complex, and challenging projects within the nuclear power industry. You will be part of a highly competent team that values collaboration, a positive work environment, and a strong sense of community. We also provide good opportunities for further development in related areas, where your development and learning are the focus. When you start with us, we ensure you receive a thorough introduction, learning from our experienced and dedicated colleagues. Here, you will find a workplace where both your development and well-being are priorities. With us, you will have the trust to act with great freedom and responsibility, which, along with good working conditions and mutual trust, provides high flexibility and balance between work and private life.
Your tasks
As a developer, you will work with a wide variety of codebases and projects. We have close collaboration with end-users, who are often within the same department or at the nuclear power plants, and the goal is to deliver quality-assured software solutions for use in technical analyses.
Your main tasks include:
- Participating in driving software projects and within this also defining requirements in collaboration with the client
- Programming and developing software primarily in object-oriented Python
- Quality assurance through testing and reviewing jointly developed software
- Documenting functionality and methodology related to developed code
- Reviewing software-related documentation and reports.
In addition, you will have a greater focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning, where you will participate in and to some extent drive development. You will also participate in our ongoing work to update and improve our working methods, where process development is part of the tasks.
Travel may occur to some extent in the position.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, we see that you need to have:
- A Master's degree or equivalent, with a broad background in mathematics and physics, preferably with elements of reactor technology and/or programming
- Solid programming skills, especially in object-oriented Python, as well as experience working in a LINUX environment
- Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing, in Swedish and English.
It is advantageous if you also have:
- Work experience in the nuclear power industry
- Experience with Git and GitLab
- Experience in the development and application of artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Experience with Matlab
- Knowledge of FORTRAN and databases
- Experience in object-oriented software design
- Experience in agile software development.
We are looking for someone who is driven by engagement and enjoys working in a team to solve complex and challenging tasks. You are analytical and structured, with the ability to deliver the right solutions of high quality. At the same time, you are willing to take your own initiatives and actively contribute to the group's success by listening to and valuing colleagues' perspectives.
You are also skilled at building and maintaining good customer relationships and strive to create solutions that meet the customer's needs. With your combination of technical expertise, curiosity, and a solution-focused attitude, you contribute to the development of both our projects and our team.
