Do you want to work with law that actually matters? At the Legal Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture, you will work with regulations in areas that directly affect people's freedoms and rights and central functions of our democracy. Your skills and experience will help the government navigate complex legal issues in a changing world.

The Legal Secretariat works closely with the political leadership and contributes daily to the government's decision-making alongside experts from other units within the ministry and the Government Offices.

Your tasks include, among other things:

  • drafting proposals for regulations and participating in the legislative process from start to finish, through the preparation of investigation directives, legal council referrals, and bills
  • conducting legal investigations that have actual significance for the government's decision-making
  • providing expert advice to the ministry's leadership and other units on legal issues with a wide range of complexity
  • assisting with quality assurance of materials and decisions within all areas of the ministry's responsibilities
  • working on issues related to the governance of authorities and other institutions
  • assisting the expedition and legal chief with the handling of government matters and case management.

The pace is sometimes high, the issues varied, and you will be part of a group of highly skilled lawyers. Current issues are mixed with longer processes, and detailed legal analysis work alternates with a broader institutional overview.

We often work in teams consisting of different competencies, which means you will collaborate with engaged and professional colleagues from various backgrounds.

Your Background

You have a law degree and are a court of appeal or administrative court assessor or have several years of experience in similar qualified legal work. You are a skilled lawyer with a very good ability to conduct legal analyses as well as to overview entire areas of law. You also have a very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing, both in Swedish and English.

It is advantageous if you are an assessor or have experience in similar work within the Government Offices. Experience in legislative work or other regulatory work, in land and environmental law, or other experience within any of the ministry's areas of responsibility is also advantageous.

Your Qualities

We are looking for someone with a very good ability to conduct legal analyses within complex areas of law with structured and systematic thinking. In our operations, which are influenced by the outside world, a high degree of flexibility and the ability to quickly change focus is required, as well as the ability to work under time pressure while maintaining quality and a very good communicative ability. You enjoy collaborating with others as well as working independently. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We offer one or more positions. For those who are assessors with employment in the courts, a mandate as a legal expert is offered for up to six years; for those who do not have employment in the courts, a permanent position with an initial six-month probationary period is offered. Start date is as soon as possible. There may be an opportunity for agreement on some remote work. A security clearance will be conducted before a hiring decision is made.
