JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a teacher in after-school care at the Educational Center, you will be a key person in a program aimed at students with special needs when regular school is not enough. The unit consists of resource school, municipal special education group, and emergency school, which means you will work with a multifaceted student group in a dynamic and adapted teaching environment. Your focus will be on creating security, learning, and development for students of various ages and with varying needs.

You will be responsible for planning after-school activities and conducting activities together with a teaching assistant in the afternoons and during breaks, as well as being involved in teaching students during the day. You need to be able to create and implement individually tailored activities that promote social interaction, motor development, and emotional well-being. You need to work based on the students' needs and interests to stimulate both recreational and educational learning processes and be able to plan and lead activities that encourage creativity, physical activity, and collaboration. Provide individual support and adaptations for students with special needs, which may include students with neuropsychiatric disabilities, social difficulties, or other functional variations.

You will have close collaboration with special educators, special teachers, and other professionals to create an inclusive environment that considers each student's unique conditions, as well as working closely with the students' guardians to ensure a holistic view and continuity between school and after-school activities.

You will actively participate in planning meetings and in the joint work around the student's individual goals and needs and actively contribute your expertise regarding the students' development.

You need to work to ensure that students feel safe and respected in their learning environment and provide support to develop social skills and self-esteem, as well as being able to handle conflicts constructively and create routines for a safe and inclusive climate.

The work includes keeping accurate documentation of students' development, learning, and well-being, and participating in the follow-up of individual development plans (IUP).

QUALIFICATIONS

Licensed teacher with a focus on after-school care or leisure pedagogue. Experience is an advantage. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

  • Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in resource schools, special education groups, or emergency schools.
  • Knowledge of different functional variations and how these affect students' learning and social abilities.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt teaching and activities based on the student's individual needs and conditions.
  • Good collaborative skills and experience working in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to create a safe and structured environment for students in need of special support.

Personal qualities:

  • Patience and a strong empathetic ability.
  • Creativity and the ability to find alternative solutions to meet students' needs.
  • A strong desire to work for inclusion and to provide all students with the conditions to develop on their own terms.
  • Flexibility and the ability to handle changing and sometimes urgent situations.
  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude towards students, guardians, and colleagues.

To start working in preschool, school, after-school care, and other educational activities, you must provide an extract from the criminal record. The extract is valid for one year and is ordered from the National Police Board www.polisen.se (https://www.polisen.se).
