Opportunity to Apply for Study Salary
Are you a nursing student interested in working in the orthopedic department after completing your education and graduating as a nurse? We offer you, who are starting semester 6 of the nursing program and choose to begin your career with us after completing your studies, the opportunity to apply for a study salary during your last semester (semester 6).
Grow into the Role
As a newly graduated nurse with us at Akademiska sjukhuset, you will have varied tasks and a safe and educational start in your new profession. Sometimes the step between education and working life feels large, and to give you the opportunity to grow into your new role, you will become part of our Clinical Development Year (KUÅ) during your first year with us at Akademiska sjukhuset.
KUÅ is a mandatory professional introduction for you as a newly graduated nurse employed by Region Uppsala, aimed at sharpening your clinical skills, networking with other recent graduates, and having reflection time with experienced nurses. Read more about Clinical Development Year (https://www.akademiska.se/arbeta-hos-oss/kliniskt-utvecklingsar/).
Our Operations
70AB is a department divided into two floors. The orthopedic department 70A is located on the 8th floor and 70B on the 7th floor at entrance 70.
On 70A, we primarily have an acute inflow of patients who are cared for pre- and postoperatively for various types of fractures, i.e., injuries that have occurred after trauma. Some patients may have, for example, cut their hand at work, broken a leg on a ski trip, or been involved in a traffic accident with high-energy violence. Other patients may have sustained a hip fracture after a fall on the same level or developed an infection that requires amputation. Thus, our patient clientele varies in terms of age and underlying diseases. We also have doctors with specialist competence in complicated pelvic fractures and difficult hand surgical procedures, which means we receive patients from large parts of the country.
To 70B comes a large part of our planned care. Here we assist patients with osteoarthritis who need prosthetic support in hip, knee, or shoulder joints. The acute inflow mainly consists of patients with traumatic fractures of the spine and neck, large herniated discs requiring emergency surgery, or patients with infections that, in addition to antibiotic treatment, require surgical intervention. We have doctors who are highly specialized in prosthetic and spinal surgery, which means we also conduct national and regional healthcare here.
Length of stay varies and can range from one day to several weeks. We work in teams with professions such as: nurses, nursing assistants, pharmacists, social workers, junior doctors, specialist doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical secretaries. With us, you will gain broad knowledge about orthopedic patients as well as pre- and postoperative care. In addition to the orthopedic condition, many of our patients also have other underlying diseases that may also need treatment. This means you will also gain broad medical knowledge.
Your Competence
We are looking for you who are a nursing student starting semester 6. You are interested in working in an orthopedic surgical department with medical breadth and want to start working in department 70AB after completing your degree. We place great emphasis on personal suitability, such as being responsible and motivated in your work. You have a flexible and curious approach and good collaboration skills.
We Offer
We offer you a permanent position as a nursing assistant. Upon submission of your license, the employment will be converted to a permanent position as a nurse.
You commit to working 12 months with us after completing your degree. There is an opportunity to work as a nursing assistant during your studies, but this is not a requirement. Your new position will, unless otherwise agreed, involve full-time work with duty obligations at all hours of the day, known as rotational duty. A probationary period may be applied.
With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
