Our Operations

The Department of Orthopedics and Hand Surgery has an exciting offer for you who are interested in working with orthopedics.

On 70A, we primarily have an acute influx of patients who are cared for pre- and postoperatively for various types of fractures, i.e., injuries that have occurred after trauma. Some patients may, for example, have cut their hand at work, broken a leg on a ski trip, or been involved in a traffic accident with high-energy violence. Other patients may have sustained a hip fracture after a fall on the same level or have developed an infection that requires amputation. In this way, our patient clientele is varied in terms of age and underlying diseases. We also have doctors with specialist competence in complicated pelvic fractures and difficult hand surgical procedures, which means we receive patients from large parts of the country.

On 70B, a large part of our planned care takes place. Here we assist patients with osteoarthritis who need prosthetic support in hip, knee, or shoulder joints. The acute influx mainly consists of patients with traumatic fractures of the spine and neck, large herniated discs requiring emergency surgery, or patients with infections that, in addition to antibiotic treatment, require surgical intervention. We have doctors who are highly specialized in prosthetic and spinal surgery, which means that we also provide national and regional healthcare here.

Length of stay varies and can range from one day to weeks. We work in teams with professionals such as: nurses, nursing assistants, pharmacists, curators, junior doctors, specialist doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical secretaries. We also have nurses with special functions such as quality responsible nurses and educational nurses aimed at driving and developing care for our patients, but also to support you as a new colleague. It is important to us that you as a nurse can develop in your role, and we therefore offer you continuous training days and weekly lectures, as well as the opportunity to take orthopedic courses during work hours.

Your Mission

With us, you will always receive a safe and well-structured introduction of at least 5 weeks. A personal introduction program is designed together with one of our educational nurses. The introduction includes, among other things, lectures on orthopedic diseases, a course in managing pain pumps, TUB training, transfer techniques, and introduction with other professional categories to get a comprehensive picture of how we work on the ward.

With us, you will gain broad knowledge about the orthopedic patient as well as pre- and postoperative care. In addition to the orthopedic condition, many of our patients also have other underlying diseases that may also need treatment. This means that you will also gain broad medical knowledge.

For you who are a newly graduated nurse, we offer a clinical development year, KUÅ (which constitutes 20% of your working hours) where you will deepen your knowledge in certain areas.

Training sessions occur once a month together with others in the staff group. We also have continuous simulation training based on the SMART concept. For those of you who have worked for two years or more as a nurse, we offer a scheduled advanced training in orthopedic diseases and diagnoses.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse with an interest in orthopedics.

Your Competence

We value a positive work environment where all employees feel comfortable and safe. We are looking for you who have good collaboration skills and want to work in a multidisciplinary team. You will lead nursing care, identify nursing needs, initiate, follow up, and prioritize your actions. Your goal is to provide the best care for your patients. We are looking for you who are curious, proactive, flexible, and have a desire to develop. Previous experience in orthopedics and/or emergency care is an advantage but not a requirement.

We Offer

We offer a permanent full-time position as a nurse with a start date according to agreement. We are looking for you who want to work days, evenings, and weekends, but also for you who want to rotate between days and nights, alternatively we are looking for you who want to work permanent nights. A probationary period may apply.

With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
