Licensed Junior Doctor for the Emergency Department in Lycksele

Region Västerbotten works to ensure that good health and sustainable development strengthen each other. We take responsibility for equitable welfare and for research and innovation to yield results.

Lycksele is a town in Lapland that offers you changing seasons, rich leisure activities, and good housing. If you want to live in a town while being close to nature, Lycksele is hard to beat. Lycksele is located in Västerbotten County, just 80 minutes from Arlanda, between coast and mountains. Lycksele Hospital is a small, modern, and well-equipped emergency hospital characterized by a good collaborative climate among various professional categories and clinics.

The Surgical Center of Southern Lapland at Lycksele Hospital is part of Region Västerbotten and offers a wide range of surgical care. We are a well-functioning and development-oriented workplace where we prioritize teamwork, with the patient in focus. Our surgical team is dedicated to providing high-quality care and continuously works to improve our work processes and working environment.

Lycksele Hospital is seeking licensed junior doctors for the hospital's emergency department. We offer an exciting work environment where you will have the opportunity to work closely with a competent team and be part of the daily work to make a difference in people's lives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a junior doctor with us, you contribute to taking good care of others and helping people feel better.

In this temporary position, you will primarily work in the emergency department and play a vital role in ensuring the functionality of the on-call operations. To give you a comprehensive view of the clinic and its workflows, you will also be trained in the surgical orthopedic care department and the admission department, which will facilitate your work in the emergency department.

The emergency department is located in a sparsely populated area and has a joint on-call service where you work as an emergency physician handling all types of patients except those with gynecological and obstetric issues. However, you may sometimes need to make the initial assessment of these conditions as well. The department is equipped to examine, assess, and manage a wide range of conditions. During on-call hours, there are backup doctors available in surgery, medicine, gynecology, and anesthesia/intensive care, and sometimes also orthopedic on-call.

You are expected to be able to assess EKGs as ambulance personnel will call you when they are dispatched to a person with chest pain. This is because long distances mean that patients may benefit from treatment (thrombolysis) even before arriving at the hospital. Please note that the decision regarding thrombolysis always lies with the medical backup.

You are expected to be able to supervise junior colleagues as the on-call service is staffed by 1 licensed doctor and 1 non-licensed doctor. Non-licensed colleagues are instructed to always consult with the licensed doctor before contacting the backup, before the patient is sent home, or before the patient is admitted. When there are no patients in the emergency department, a standby on-call is applied at the hospital. On-call rooms are located in close proximity to the emergency department.

During on-call hours, you are also the house on-call and first contact for questions from the wards. You carry a pager and are alerted in case of trauma alarms, cardiac arrest, acutely ill children (BB), or danger to a woman's life (BB).

You are the first (phone) contact with the nurse at Lycksele municipality if they need advice regarding individuals living in care facilities or receiving home care/home nursing. This may involve issues such as falls or medication inquiries.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for you who are a licensed doctor with an interest in emergency care.

You need to have good knowledge of Swedish at a C1 level, both spoken and written, and other languages are considered an asset. We value a strong interest in teamwork and a willingness to contribute to a positive work environment. Additionally, we would like to see that you have a genuine commitment to the patient's best interests and to maintaining high quality in our work.

Experience working in surgery, orthopedics, or urology is an advantage.
