Social Worker with Police

Stockholm – our capital city with millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone living here today and in the future. Now we are looking for someone who wants to think big, new, and differently with us – for the people of Stockholm.

Welcome to Us

Within the Södermalm district administration, 1,700 employees are responsible for ensuring that elderly care, preschools, social services, care for people with disabilities, and urban environment are carried out in the best possible way for the residents of Södermalm.

The core values of the district administration are that we strive to always be engaged, professional, and innovative.

The Södermalm district administration is now transitioning based on the new social services act and has been selected as one of the city’s pilot districts where new working methods will be tested to provide our residents with support in a simpler and more coordinated way.

The new social services act means a shift from authority exercise to a stronger focus on preventive work, increased accessibility, and team-based working methods.

Social workers with the police will organizationally fall under the pilot project area Södermalm, which is a newly created area where the new working methods within the pilot will be tested. Within the pilot project area, there are units such as adult reception, which also includes the domestic violence team and case manager. Child and youth reception, economic assistance reception, which also includes the housing team, and the prevention group.

As a social worker with the police, you will be organized in the adult reception unit, but you will work with victims of violence and violent adults residing in Kungsholmen, Northern inner city, and Södermalm. The workplace is located in co-location with the police.

We are now looking for a social worker who wants to continue the important work with particularly vulnerable crime victims together with the entire City Police Area.

We Offer

The administration offers wellness opportunities through a generous wellness allowance. You can also purchase a very favorable annual pass to Stockholm's city swimming pools, including gyms. Continuous supervision is included in the work. Södermalm applies winter and summer working hours and has a flexible working hours agreement.

Your Role

Your role is to motivate and support victims of violence and encourage perpetrators to contact local social services and seek treatment. Often, the work is of an outreach nature, and your role is to build trust in the social services and police work. When you are not in contact with clients by phone, you usually meet them in the police premises in connection with interrogations. Many times, a request may come at short notice, sometimes the same day, so you need to be present. There may also be conversations with clients when they are in custody or during contact ban interrogations.

Together with your colleague, you will continue to develop working methods and forms of collaboration with the police and local social services.

Your Competence and Experience

As a person, you work independently, take responsibility for your tasks, and drive them forward. You find it easy to create new contacts and make things happen while smoothly adapting to changing circumstances. Your clear communication makes people feel seen and understood. Since the work involves meetings with people in crisis or with complex life situations, it is important that you feel secure in your work role. By meeting others with respect, humility, and hope, you can make a real difference in their daily lives.

For this position, it is also required that you have:

  • a degree in social work or another equivalent degree
  • several years of current experience working with violence in close relationships
  • training and experience in working with MI
  • knowledge of the various areas of social services
  • good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing

It is an advantage for the position if you have:

  • knowledge of confidentiality legislation
  • experience in authority exercise; adults and/or children and youth

We will place great emphasis on your personal skills, abilities, and commitment to the position.

Other

Please note: Based on placement in police premises, a security review will be conducted by the police authority before employment. Before potential employment, an extract from the criminal record will be requested.

We recruit without a personal letter in this recruitment to strengthen the focus on the competencies and experiences required for this role. This recruitment includes tests as part of the assessment during selection.

We see diversity as enriching and welcome all applicants. The City of Stockholm works with competency-based recruitment aimed at recognizing each person's competence and thus counteracting discrimination.

Welcome to the Södermalm district administration!

Södermalm is a cultural and vibrant district in the inner city with engaged residents and a big heart. Here, you can truly make a difference. Together with our Södermalm residents, we are developing an even better district to live, work, and reside in.

As an employee with us, you have a secure employment with fair conditions, where we believe that diversity and gender balance contribute to strengthening our operations. We like to think innovatively – we hope that you, as an applicant, want to develop Södermalm together with us!
