GIS Engineer for the Water and Sewage Department

Your role with us

You will work independently but in close collaboration with colleagues in the Water and Sewage and GIS departments, as well as with external suppliers. The role involves both strategic and operational responsibilities where you drive the development of the system and ensure it is used effectively throughout the Water and Sewage organization. Your work directly contributes to making the organization more data-driven and future-proof.

Your main tasks will be to be the system owner for our new mapping system, participate in the implementation of the system, and then take responsibility for system management and further development. You will ensure that the system works at all levels and is used optimally by the Water and Sewage organization. The role involves close dialogue with suppliers and colleagues to identify needs, implement improvements, and develop new features in the mapping system.

Regularly updating the database by entering and quality-assuring data and inputs into the system is part of the job, as well as performing analyses and data extraction to support simulation systems and decision-making within the Water and Sewage operations. You will provide external and internal resources with mapping materials and other relevant information from the mapping system.

Who are we looking for?

You who are applying have a relevant university degree or other education that the employer assesses as equivalent in GIS and cartography, or equivalent experience. We want you to have a few years of experience with mapping systems and SQL databases, as well as the ability to work independently and take responsibility for system management and development.

Experience with GIS systems and work with the Water and Sewage Bank is an advantage. It is also beneficial if you have experience working with GIS analyses and data quality for decision-making, as well as knowledge of SQL programming. You need a B driver's license to easily get around the municipality when needed.

To succeed in the role, you should be driven and curious about introducing new systems and working methods. You are good at creating good dialogue since you will have contact points with colleagues and suppliers in the role. This requires flexibility but also good communication skills, and you should be comfortable expressing yourself in Swedish both verbally and in writing. As a person, you are meticulous and structured with an interest in streamlining and improving operations.

If necessary, the position may be classified in a security class, which means that a security check may be conducted before employment.

Our Water and Sewage Department is part of the Technical Administration, which consists of Construction, Property Technology, the Staff, and the Water and Sewage Department. The Water and Sewage Department is further divided into three units: Operations, Pipeline, and Project/Lab.

In our pipeline unit, we are 8 employees who together form a strong team in investigation, planning, GIS, and surveying. You will join a group that works closely together on complex projects, where every idea is valued and collaboration is highly appreciated.

The Technical Committee is responsible through the technical administration for the development, construction, and management of the municipality's public spaces and buildings. The committee also has the task of organizing municipal water and sewage supply.
