About us

The Orthopedic Technology unit at Sahlgrenska University Hospital prescribes and customizes orthopedic technical aids. The unit has about 55 employees, and the main unit is located at Falkenbergsgatan 3, where we also manufacture aids. Orthopedic Technology staff daily at hospitals in Greater Gothenburg. We work transprofessionally and are part of several team activities.

In addition to clinical activities, the unit also has a mission to contribute to research and development in the field. For example, a large project is underway to implement 3D technology for the production of orthopedic technical aids, and we continuously work to improve both care and operations. For instance, we are currently working on various improvement projects, development projects, and competence development efforts for about half a day each week.

At OTA Sahlgrenska, all types of orthopedic technical aids are manufactured, such as prostheses, orthoses, insoles, and corsets, always with the patient's needs in focus. As Sahlgrenska University Hospital offers highly specialized care in orthopedics and has a nationally specialized care assignment (NHV) for dysmelia, we work with prosthesis provision for patients with osseointegration, dysmelia, and other groups of prosthesis patients.

About the job

You will have the opportunity to work in a professional environment, participate in transprofessional care for patients with complex needs, and contribute solutions to develop orthopedic technical care. As an orthopedic engineer, you will work clinically with patients and in close collaboration with our various groups of technicians.

The majority of the work takes place at the unit's reception at Falkenbergsgatan 3 and sometimes at one of the three hospitals in Gothenburg. We also have a close collaboration with habilitation units in the Gothenburg area.

Research, innovation, and development are part of the work to fulfill Sahlgrenska University Hospital's overarching goal of being a leading university hospital and creating value for patients. There is an opportunity to apply for research and development funding at Sahlgrenska and in the region, and we encourage the drive to combine research and development with clinical work.

About you

You are a licensed orthopedic engineer and have an orthopedic engineering education from the Health College in Jönköping or equivalent education and experience. You have experience meeting patients with needs for orthopedic technical aids. It is an advantage if you have previous experience working with prosthesis or orthosis provision.

You will work closely with patients and have a good approach, understanding, and interest in people. You find it easy to listen and communicate with both patients and relatives and work from a person-centered approach.

As you work in a team and have contacts with various partners, you need to have good collaboration skills. You are secure and stable in yourself and can adapt to the situation and prioritize. To thrive in the role, you need to be flexible and have the ability to organize and plan your work independently.

You have the ability to communicate and coordinate tasks to different roles in the team based on the patient's needs. As a person, you are service-oriented, quality-conscious, efficient, and responsible. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
