Are you looking for a workplace with a good atmosphere and challenging tasks?
Do you want to contribute to the development of the occupational therapy aspect of forensic psychiatric care? Then you are warmly welcome to apply.
Your workplace
The forensic psychiatry department works for those who have been committed to forensic psychiatric care. Here, individuals who have committed crimes under the influence of a serious mental disorder are treated and, according to Swedish law, cannot be sentenced to prison. The operations are conducted in Kristinehamn and Karlstad. The department is in an expansive phase and encompasses a total of 42 inpatient care places in Kristinehamn and Karlstad, of which 10 are classified as security class 2 and 32 as security class 3. We are about 90 employees with broad competence and long experience in psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. A decision has recently been made to build a new inpatient ward with security class 3 in our area in Kristinehamn, consisting of 14 care places, which is very encouraging. We focus on qualitative forensic psychiatric care. The goal of treatment is to equip the patient to manage a life in society.
We are looking for an occupational therapist for a temporary position during parental leave.
Your tasks
As forensic psychiatric care often lasts for a long time, there are opportunities to work in longer processes with varying complexity. We see the occupational therapist as a very important piece of the puzzle in our treatment work, where occupational therapy assessments should create conditions for and ensure good and patient-safe care.
As an occupational therapist within the forensic psychiatry department, you will be responsible for conducting ADL assessments, trialing and prescribing assistive devices based on assessments, and working with patients in individual treatment. Some examples of tasks include assessment and evaluation of activity ability, skills training, treatment focused on creating structure and activity balance in daily life, and developing individually tailored cognitive support, such as visual aids. There is also the opportunity to initiate group therapy. Training and consultation for staff in our departments is also part of the assignment, as well as supervising occupational therapy students.
As an occupational therapist, you need to be able to work independently and be flexible, as well as have the ability to recognize and articulate the specific needs within the area concerning each individual patient. The tasks include participating in multiprofessional dialogue and assessment regarding the patient when necessary, including during rounds, care planning, and external meetings. The occupational therapist works in a team with ward staff and other professional groups and has a guiding and supportive role regarding various interventions and training of activity ability for rehabilitative and habilitative purposes.
The occupational therapist's work areas are divided into ward work, training apartments, and outpatient care. You will conduct ADL assessments and work with treatment and skills training together with patients in the department's training apartments. You will make assessments and treatment interventions as needed in the patient's home environment when the patient is discharged to forensic psychiatric outpatient care. The occupational therapist also ensures support and assistive devices before forensic psychiatric outpatient care and prior to discharge from forensic psychiatric care.
We offer an individually tailored introduction to create the best conditions and enjoyment in the work.
Your knowledge and competencies
We are looking for a licensed occupational therapist. A B driver's license is a requirement. We prefer that you have experience in adult psychiatry and cognitive assistive devices. You need to be clear, proactive, structured, and have good pedagogical skills. You should also find it easy to collaborate with others and have a good ability to represent, summarize, and document both orally and in writing. Personal suitability is of great importance.
