We also conduct risk assessments when life-sentenced individuals apply for a time-limited sentence. In 2026, the department will also begin conducting risk assessments in two new case types, regarding conditional release and as a basis for the court's decision on the new penalty of secure detention.

The Department of Forensic Psychiatry consists of two forensic psychiatric examination units located in Stockholm and Gothenburg, as well as a coordination unit. The operations in Gothenburg are conducted in the newly built Salix building, designed and constructed for the needs of the operations, located in Skogome.
