At the National Board of Forensic Medicine, experts in forensic medicine, forensic chemistry, forensic genetics, and forensic psychiatry collaborate to provide the justice system with the answers it needs. The Department of Forensic Psychiatry examines, at the request of the court, whether a person suspected of a crime committed it under the influence of a serious mental disorder. We also conduct risk assessments when life-sentenced individuals apply for a time-limited sentence. In 2026, the department will also begin conducting risk assessments in two new case types, regarding conditional release and as a basis for the court's decision on the new penalty of secure care.
The Department of Forensic Psychiatry consists of two forensic psychiatric examination units located in Stockholm and Gothenburg, as well as a coordination unit. The operations in Gothenburg are conducted in the newly built Salix building, designed and constructed for the needs of the operations, located in Skogome.
We are now looking for a nurse for a six-month temporary position at the forensic psychiatric examination unit in Gothenburg!
Your assignment
As a nurse under the group leader, you will be responsible for the work at a stay department and lead the nursing staff. You will work for care, safety, and logistics. The individuals in the stay department are detained and suspected of crimes.
Qualifications
- Licensed nurse with an interest in leadership and working with mental health issues.
Meritorious
- Experience in investigative forensic psychiatric operations, correctional care, forensic psychiatric care, or psychiatric emergency care. Specialist nurse in psychiatry.
Personal qualities and abilities
You have the ability to collaborate with others and meet them in a responsive manner, you need to be stable and able to handle stressful situations at times. You are also committed and responsible in your work and act in accordance with decisions made and guidelines.
The work requires you to make correct assessments and priorities and to plan and organize your work effectively. You have the ability to view issues from an ethical perspective and express yourself well in Swedish in both speech and writing. Furthermore, you have an interest in leadership, coordinating, motivating, and leading others.

The employment
Temporary position for six months. Start date by agreement. Placement in Gothenburg, Skogome. The National Board of Forensic Medicine applies individual salary setting. The work includes three shifts, daytime, evenings, nights, and weekends.
The NBFM is part of the justice chain, and we place high demands on employees' judgment and safety awareness as well as respect for law and order. As a representative of the National Board of Forensic Medicine, you follow the state value framework and contribute through your actions to legal security, legal certainty, and trust in the authority.
We conduct a background check by checking criminal records before employment. The NBFM applies a competency-based recruitment process where psychological tests, knowledge tests, or work tests may occur. Before hiring licensed health and medical care personnel, checks are made with the National Board of Health and Welfare and the Health and Social Care Inspectorate.
Upon employment at the National Board of Forensic Medicine, there is an obligation to be placed in a war position.
