Your tasks
As a researcher at the Department of Information Technology, you will contribute to the knowledge development within intelligent energy systems through collaboration with colleagues in the research group CSL@BS, industry partners, and students. Your work will primarily focus on applying agent-based reinforcement learning (RL) to optimize heat load control in district heating networks, within the framework of the project "Data Analysis for Stabilizing Peak Loads in District Heating Networks (DAS)".
The work includes:
- design and implementation of RL algorithms to address the challenges of variations in peak loads in district heating systems
- development and use of simulation models to evaluate the effectiveness of different control strategies, including the use of hybrid simulation methods
- analysis of large datasets from district heating networks and building facilities to improve the performance of the models
- close collaboration with industry partners such as Borås Energi och Miljö (BE), Bostäder i Borås (BiB), NODA Intelligent Systems, and Ekkono Solutions to ensure the practical relevance and impact of the research
- exploration of the use of Federated Learning (FL) and Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) to enhance model training and data access
- contribution to scientific publications and presentations to disseminate research results to both the academic and industrial worlds
- participation in project meetings and knowledge exchange activities.
Your qualifications
To be considered for the position, you need to have a PhD or equivalent scientific competence in computer science, informatics, electronics, data analysis, or another relevant subject for the position's focus. You should have good knowledge of English and be able to provide documentation that supports that you have:
- experience in reinforcement learning
- experience in agent-based modeling and simulation
- the ability to work independently as well as good collaborative skills
- previous experience collaborating with industry partners
- experience in scientific publishing in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Meritorious:
- Skills in programming languages such as Python.
- Experience in data analysis and visualization techniques.
- Ability to conduct independent research and work in teams.
- Excellent ability to communicate in writing and orally in English.
- Experience in Federated Learning (FL).
- Experience in Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs).
- Experience in the energy sector, particularly in district heating.
- Experience in time series data analysis.
- Demonstrated pedagogical skills.
- Higher education pedagogical training covering at least 10 weeks of full-time studies (15 credits), or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability and the ability to collaborate within a project group.
Your employment
Fixed-term employment, 11 months.
The extent is 100% or as agreed.
Start date as soon as possible.
Location: Borås.
