Postdoc Position in Epigenetic Data Analysis
Are you interested in working with epigenomic datasets related to chemical risks and human health in a pleasant, dynamic, and international environment? Apply for the postdoc position in epigenetic data analysis in the Molecular Toxicology and Epigenetics group (link (https://www.uu.se/institution/organismbiologi/forskning/fysiologi-och-miljotoxikologi/forskargrupper/ruegg-labb-)) at the Department of Organism Biology, which works with epigenomic and other molecular mapping to uncover mechanisms behind (brain) developmental effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). The EpiTox group is part of the research program link (https://www.uu.se/institution/organismbiologi/forskning/fysiologi-och-miljotoxikologi), a growing and inspiring research environment where experimental models and molecular tools are used to study and understand cellular and molecular mechanisms in animals and plants that underlie the physiology, development, and environmental responses of entire organisms.
You will work in the Formas-funded project EpiDNT, a multi-partner project aimed at identifying epigenetic markers for exposure-related health effects in humans. Partner Carl-Gustaf Bornehag at Karlstad University will serve as co-supervisor for epigenetic analyses of human data in link (https://www.kau.se/en/selma-study).
Responsibilities
You will have two main tasks: 1. bioinformatics and biostatistical analyses of various epigenomic datasets generated through Oxford Nanopore sequencing (DNA modifications) from cellular models and through Illumina EPIC (DNA methylation) from human samples; 2. a literature review and meta-analyses of published data to identify and validate epigenomic markers for chemically induced effects on brain development.
You are expected to plan, execute, analyze, and interpret your work independently, write scientific publications, contribute to project reports, participate in international meetings and conferences, supervise PhD and master's students, and engage in scientific and social activities within the group, the program, and the department.
Qualifications
A PhD or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, or areas deemed equivalent by the employer. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, candidates who have obtained their degree within the last three years should be considered. When calculating the three-year frame, the deadline for applications is the starting point. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or union duties, etc.
Well-documented experience in working with R or Python, analysis of long-read sequencing and DNA methylation datasets, as well as knowledge of statistical analyses of such data and environmental epigenomics is required. Since the work will be conducted in an international and interdisciplinary environment, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
Significant emphasis will also be placed on personal qualities. We are looking for a highly motivated person with original, creative, and analytical thinking as well as good collaboration skills. The applicant is expected to take initiative and work independently.
Desirable/meritorious
Experience with biostatistical methods in human datasets as well as systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses is meritorious.
