Subject Coordinator at the Swedish Food Agency
Do you want to help shape the future regulations for safe food in Sweden and the EU? As a subject coordinator at the Swedish Food Agency, you will work with international negotiations in the food sector and contribute to ensuring that Swedish interests are represented in the EU and other international forums. Welcome to apply!
Unit for International Coordination
The unit is responsible for the Swedish Food Agency's support to the government in its work within the EU and in other international contexts. Most of this work is carried out in various working groups and committees within the EU, Codex Alimentarius, and other international forums that lead to the development of new regulations for safe food and integrity. In the negotiation work, we develop proposals for Swedish positions and participate in and report from meetings. The work is conducted in close contact with other operational areas within the Swedish Food Agency as well as the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Infrastructure, other authorities, companies/industry organizations, and other interest organizations.
The unit currently consists of 15 employees, of which 9 are subject coordinators working with international issues. What characterizes our unit is our strong commitment to both the work and the working group. The work sometimes involves a high workload, and therefore flexibility, prioritization skills, and good planning and collaboration abilities are required.
Your Role
The focus of the role is on negotiation work within the food sector. Which specific area you will work with will be determined by where active negotiations are taking place and which issues are important for Swedish interests. Right now, we are looking for a colleague who can work with nutrition-related issues. As you grow into your role, you are expected to broaden your expertise in new areas based on the needs of the organization.
The position involves some travel, primarily to Brussels, but many of the international meetings are digital. We offer interesting tasks where you can build contacts and network with both national and international parties. You will develop your knowledge in the food sector and negotiation work within the EU.
You, together with your colleagues, are responsible for the organization's common mission and resources as well as the needs of target groups. Furthermore, you make thoughtful priorities in your work and deliver in accordance with set goals. You monitor the external environment to gain new perspectives, maintain relevant competencies, and adapt your work to the organization's requirements and conditions.
Your Competence
We are looking for someone with a relevant university degree, preferably in natural sciences related to food. To succeed in the role, it is essential that you have current experience working in the food sector and that you have independently driven issues in a coordinating role. You also have a comprehensive understanding of food legislation.
It is advantageous if you have current experience in negotiation work or legislative work, experience working with nutrition-related issues, or from public service. We would like you to have knowledge of the EU and its decision-making processes.
You have a very good ability to write and speak both Swedish and English and possess a high digital maturity in your work.
Your Personal Qualities
To succeed in the role of subject coordinator, you need to be confident in making decisions and independently driving an issue forward to a result. You have the ability to build relationships and networks both within the agency and externally, and through these deliver and meet stakeholders' expectations. You can independently prioritize and reprioritize when circumstances change.
To succeed in your work, you act responsibly, collaboratively, and developmentally. You are solution-focused and invite and are open to collaborations and new perspectives that improve our deliveries. You enjoy working in teams and are open to new working methods, sharing knowledge and lessons to strengthen our collective ability. You collaborate with colleagues across different areas of expertise, which provides you with continuous and varied learning in your daily work and aligns well with your curious and development-oriented approach.
We place great importance on your personal qualities.
