Your Role

As a Fire Safety Engineer in the Surface Ship Technology department, you will work on our exciting development and support projects with the aim of supporting the compliance with fire safety regulations in the design process, in order to deliver safe systems and vessels for our customers and end-users.

You will perform tasks in areas such as holistic fire protection, passive and active fire protection measures, design of fire prevention solutions, and material selection.

The role includes, among other things, identifying, analyzing, and minimizing fire risks at an early stage of development to prevent potential accidents that could harm people and property.

You will be part of a team of Fire and System Safety Engineers with a strong interest in safety and commitment to developing the department and its capabilities. Internally, you will collaborate closely with both system engineers, designers, and other interdisciplinary disciplines, as well as externally through contact with suppliers and customers to ensure a safe final product.

Main Responsibilities

• Planning and management of fire protection technical design and fire safety work in development projects
• Interpretation and application of relevant regulatory requirements
• Formulation and allocation of fire safety requirements on technical systems to reduce or eliminate risk
• Review and risk analysis of design solutions in complex systems at an early stage of development to identify fire safety risks in systems, construction, and integration
• Contact with national and international customers in projects to present analyses, safety risks, and results of fire safety work
• Represent the fire safety area in projects and be leading and advisory in fire safety issues regarding our surface ship products
• Preparation of fire protection technical documentation

Work location: Karlskrona

The position includes business travel, primarily within Sweden.

You also need to have a good ability to plan, organize, and document your work both in the short and long term.

Necessary Skills

• Civil or university engineer, specializing in fire or risk
• Experience in risk management and risk assessment
• Good analytical skills
• Good communication skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written

• Good ability to create understanding for technical system solutions

Meritorious

• Experience working with fire safety solutions within relevant industries or sectors, such as shipbuilding, automotive, aviation, nuclear, or oil and gas industries

The position requires you to undergo and be approved according to the current regulations for security protection. For positions where Saab has requirements for security classification, this may, in some cases, require certain citizenship.
