Workplace Description
Are you ready for a bigger challenge?
The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest authority with approximately 40,000 employees across the country. With us, you have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission – to increase safety and reduce crime in society.
Our group within the IT department works with the technical capabilities of the Police Authority that contribute to the fight against serious organized crime and support the specialist operations within the authority. The daily work is inherently characterized not only by confidentiality but also by security protection, while we work very closely with the operations.
The group has overall responsibility for the solutions but relies on and collaborates with several groups within the IT department, especially within our operations and infrastructure unit, which means you will have daily contact and collaborate closely with several other groups.
Job Description
As a technician in our team, you will help strengthen the competence in operational technology, such as mobile equipment for both personnel and vehicles, as well as various types of software. This technology will be crucial for the specialist operations within the Police Authority to advance against serious organized crime.
We work closely with the police operations, both end-users and management, helping them develop their core capabilities through an exchange of needs and technical solutions. The work involves gaining a good understanding of the operational needs and conditions to translate them into effective technical solutions, while maintaining security standards.
We have an exciting breadth in our solutions as we handle both hardware and software and are involved throughout the infrastructure from networks and servers to applications at the end-user level. Additionally, we are involved throughout the entire lifecycle from installation and development to operations, training, and support. In daily work, there will be a strong focus on the administration of the standalone environments, e.g., through server administration, user management, and management of client equipment.
Typical tasks for a technician may include:
- Configuration of applications, as well as some further development
- Ongoing operations and maintenance of standalone IT environments (e.g., patching, updates)
- Troubleshooting and user support
- Implementation of applications and working with hardware in the environment
- Monitoring of current technologies
Competence development is highly valued, and everyone in the group regularly has the opportunity for both operational practice and competence-enhancing activities based on needs and interests.
Qualifications
We welcome applications from both junior and more senior profiles; your personal qualities, such as being creative, solution-oriented, and your willingness to learn new things and contribute to a safer Sweden, will be valued at least as highly as your formal qualifications and merits. As a starting point, we expect you to have the following experiences/competencies:
- Academic education in IT. Alternatively, you have equivalent acquired competence that the Police Authority assesses as equivalent
- Some years of professional experience (recently) in a role such as technician, systems engineer, system developer, application specialist, or similar role
- Professional experience (recently) in networks, IT infrastructure, physical and virtual IT environments, where you have worked with server administration, development, and/or installation of software
- Very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish, as well as a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in English
The position requires Swedish citizenship.
Meritorious
It is beneficial if you have competence in some of the following meritorious competencies and technical areas, but you do not need to have competence in everything, as you will have the opportunity to learn on-site with us.
- Installation/configuration of applications
- Administration of Windows and/or Linux environments
- Work with geodata/GIS
- Work with standalone, hardened technical environments
- Administration of Active Directory
Personal Qualities
The tasks require that you as a person have a good security awareness with high integrity. The police operations we work with are largely characterized by an event-driven work environment, which means you need to be solution-oriented and creative. You will be involved in various types of assignments where priorities can shift quickly, which means you enjoy being challenged in your thinking and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and contribute both in big and small ways.
The role involves many points of contact within the authority, including with other groups within the IT department as well as direct contact with operations and end-users regarding their needs and support. Therefore, it is essential that you can collaborate and communicate with others smoothly and effectively.
Furthermore, we see you as someone with a broad technical interest, engaged with your own drive, where we value your desire to develop, learn new things, and share your expertise.
Since our work is subject to strict security requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability and your personal qualities.
