Workplace Description

A position as a research engineer is available at the laboratory for Barrier Immunity (https://portal.research.lu.se/sv/organisations/barrier-immunity/) – a newly formed research group led by Assistant Professor Inta Gribonika (https://www.linkedin.com/in/inta-gribonika-67955317a/), ORCID (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5694-1315), focusing on antibody formation and host-microbiota interactions at barrier surfaces. The research engineer recruited through this announcement is expected to work closely with the principal investigator to establish a strong and supportive research environment. Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility

The selected candidate is expected to provide administrative, organizational, and technical research support to the lab. The administrative part includes registry management in the KLARA and Mosaic systems, writing ethical approvals and risk assessments. Therefore, good written and oral skills in Swedish are required in addition to full proficiency in English. Organizational responsibilities include effective and continuous management of laboratory operations, ordering reagents, responsibility for the lab's research resources, and onboarding interns. Technical research support involves assisting in immunological and microbiological experiments, including maintenance of bacterial cultures, mouse colonies, as well as work with in vivo and in vitro models.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • MSc degree in biomedical sciences with a focus on immunology and microbiology
  • Documented written and oral proficiency in Swedish
  • Documented experience in writing ethical approvals and other laboratory administration in Swedish
  • Full written and oral proficiency in English
  • Experience in lab management:
    • KLARA system (chemicals)
    • Mosaic (management of mouse colonies)
    • Proceedo (orders)
  • LAS certification (laboratory animal knowledge):
    • Ability to conduct animal experiments
    • Strategic and effective maintenance of mouse colonies
  • Ability to perform microbiological techniques:
    • Maintenance of aerobic and anaerobic bacterial cultures
    • Isolation of strains from human/mouse material
    • Sample preparation for 16S sequencing
  • Ability to perform immunological techniques:
    • Flow cytometry
    • ELISA/ELISPOT
    • Confocal microscopy
  • Documented experience working with human tissue cultures/samples

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience in bioinformatics is particularly meritorious
  • Previous experience as a lab manager/research engineer in a university environment
  • Driving license (B)

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The position requires documented independence, problem-solving ability, and good collaboration skills.

Additional Information

The position is a permanent employment at 100%, starting February 1, 2026, or by agreement. A probationary period may apply for up to 6 months. Interviews will be held on-site in Lund during the second week of January 2026.
