Specialist Physician at the Gastroenterology Clinic

The Gastroenterology Clinic, MT-Clinic, is a regional gastroenterology clinic for the Southeast healthcare region.

The clinic consists of sections for endoscopy, hepatology, IBD, and neurogastroenterology, and care is provided at our outpatient clinic, pelvic function unit (BFE), day care unit, inpatient department, and endoscopy unit. All of the clinic's facilities are modern and purpose-built. We have 25 physicians out of a total of approximately 140 employees at the clinic.

Job Description

At the Gastroenterology Clinic, you will work as a specialist physician in both outpatient and inpatient care. The work in the sections is interdisciplinary and team-based, with established networks to other specialties and regular multidisciplinary conferences. As a specialist physician, continuous professional development and subspecialization occur, where the work usually gradually focuses mainly on one of the sections.

In our outpatient clinic, the Pelvic Function Unit, where patients with functional gastrointestinal diseases are assessed, coexists with the liver clinic and IBD clinic.

The medical and surgical IBD operations are co-located at our IBD clinic and inpatient unit, which facilitates joint assessments and follow-ups of our patients at different stages of their disease.

The endoscopy unit belongs to the MT-Clinic, where primarily medical gastroenterologists work. We currently staff five endoscopy rooms. In the fall of 2026, we will move to entirely new facilities with a total of eight endoscopy rooms, seven of which belong to our clinic.

Region Östergötland currently has two NHV assignments in which the MT-Clinic is involved, namely reconstructive IBD surgery starting in spring 2026 and for women with anorectal delivery injuries for several years.

On-call duty is included as part of your role as a specialist physician. The clinic is responsible for a gastroenterological on-call line 24/7, which includes rounding our inpatient department on weekends.

Research is highly prioritized at the clinic, and we conduct research within all our profile areas at a high level. There is an opportunity to undergo doctoral training with supervision at the clinic or to continue researching as an already graduated doctor. Teaching medical students is a natural and important part of your work as a specialist physician.

Our approach is that as a physician at the clinic, you should be able to complete your tasks during working hours, and we therefore work with clear work schedules that also include administrative time. We believe it is important to feel job satisfaction and that at the end of the workday, you feel you have done a good job.

About You

You have a Swedish medical license (attached to the application) and good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing (Swedish C1). You are either already a specialist in medical gastroenterology and hepatology or wish to further specialize in that specialty.

You have good collaboration skills and good communication skills are fundamental and important qualities. In the role of specialist physician, you will work independently, and therefore we are looking for someone who is driven by the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize your work. You demonstrate good judgment towards both patients, relatives, and your colleagues and have a good ability to make correct assessments. We are looking for someone who is curious and engaged with a strong desire to develop as a physician.
