Nurses Wanted for the Surgical Outpatient Clinic

As some of our nurses are going on parental leave or moving on to new assignments within Region Östergötland (RÖ), we are now seeking dedicated nurses to join our team at the surgical outpatient clinic.

The Surgical Clinic US is a clinic where we actively and successfully work on, for example, opening care places in our two departments, we have success in recruiting nurses, and we have a large operation within research and a hopeful outlook. The clinic is part of the Center for Surgery, Orthopedics, and Cancer Care (CKOC) and has, in addition to the care departments, a surgical outpatient clinic and a breast section.

The surgical outpatient clinic includes the following sections: Colorectal, upper abdominal, endocrine, and emergency sections. Common diagnoses and conditions include cancer in the intestines, liver, esophagus, pancreas, and endocrine organs. We have stoma therapists and also perform IBD surgery.

Job Description

In your work, you will have contact with patients in need of surgical care. The clinic's operations are divided into different sections, and there is close collaboration between the outpatient clinic staff and the surgeons in each section. Right now, we need to replenish nursing resources in the colorectal and endocrine sections. The assignments may vary depending on the section. You may take on a role as a contact nurse, ensuring the patient's journey through the care process, from referral, diagnosis, and follow-up before and after surgery. The work includes telephone counseling, various types of patient-facing outpatient work, and you have a significant responsibility for ensuring the patient is followed throughout the process. For some of the positions, a portion of surgical planning may be included.

We see ourselves as a whole with different specialties and work together, supporting each other in daily tasks.

Work Group

At the surgical outpatient clinic, we are a work group that staffs several sections and the physician's outpatient clinic. We have shared facilities, lunchrooms, APT, and the same unit manager. We are about 25 employees, including nurses, nursing assistants, stoma therapists, and administrative staff in the group. The clinic is also staffed by the clinic's surgeons.

About You

We are looking for a licensed nurse/specialist nurse with a genuine interest in surgery and care for patients with cancer and other surgically treated conditions. We prefer that you have several years of experience in the profession and that you have worked in inpatient care for a few years. We expect you to complete the contact nurse training within the first few years if you do not already have it. If you wish to further your studies to become a specialist nurse, we work to give you the opportunity based on your qualifications and previous experience. We want you to have at least a few years of experience when you study.

If you do not have inpatient care experience or equivalent, service/hospitation in one of our departments is included in the introduction.

As we work very process-oriented, it is a requirement that you are positive towards development work and can see opportunities in changed working methods. You need to be open to using technology and digital tools.

We are looking for someone who is calm, secure, and has personal maturity. You have good collaboration skills and can work independently with your tasks in the team. You have a good ability to structure your day and to lead yourself and others.

You need to be able to organize your work and plan independently and take responsibility for your planning, as well as being able to adjust quickly to changes in the daily schedule. You understand your role in the team, communicate clearly, and consider the best interests of the entire operation in your actions and decisions.
