Psychologist for the National Gymnasium for the Disabled in Umeå

Umeå is one of four locations in Sweden with a National Gymnasium for the Disabled (RgRh) – a program for youth with significant physical disabilities who require a tailored educational path during their high school years.

The National Gymnasium consists of a school, habilitation, and student housing that together provide students with support to develop and achieve their goals. Adjacent to Dragonskolan, one of Sweden's largest schools, is the habilitation where interventions are provided individually and integrated into the school environment.

The Habilitation team belongs to Umeå's high school and adult education board and works with students admitted to the National Gymnasium. The habilitation is based on each student's conditions and aims for personal development and improved physical, mental, and social functioning. The work is conducted in close collaboration between occupational therapists, social workers, physiotherapists, speech therapists, nurses, and doctors – as well as in cooperation with the school, student housing, and other stakeholders.

We are now looking for a psychologist to join our team!

Your Responsibilities

The interventions are carried out in accordance with the Health and Medical Services Act (HSL) and are based on the individual needs of the student. The work includes individual conversations with students, assessments of cognitive functions, and typical tasks for a psychologist within habilitation.

You will contribute your professional expertise to the habilitation team and be responsible for a number of students, which involves coordinating interventions and following up on the student's development. Together with other professionals, you will also participate in organizational development and quality work to continuously improve support and working methods within the National Gymnasium.

About You

We are looking for a licensed psychologist with an interest in working in an environment where youth development is the focus. You have experience in providing individual counseling and assessments of cognitive functions, intellectual disabilities, and neuropsychiatric conditions. Experience working within habilitation and interdisciplinary teams is an advantage.

We would prefer you to have further training in neuropsychology and experience in assessment work.

As a person, you are structured, flexible, and development-oriented. You have a good ability to plan and prioritize, are curious about contributing to the development of the organization, and see opportunities in change. Since collaboration with the school, student housing, and other entities is a central part of the role, you need to have good collaborative skills, initiative, and the ability to create good relationships. You are an important part of the team but also enjoy working independently and taking responsibility for your own cases. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

To communicate with students, guardians, and colleagues, the position requires that you have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written, as well as good digital competence.

In accordance with the law on suitability checks, a police record extract must be presented upon employment.
