Social Worker for Economic Assistance Unit

At Norrtälje Municipality, we take pride in being part of the democratic foundation of society and being a part of our residents' essential daily lives. In our broad operations with our knowledge and experience, we have a common drive – we want to enable people and opportunities to grow. We are proud of each other and how we together enrich the lives of our residents.

We offer you

In the Economic Assistance Unit, we work to investigate and assess the right to economic assistance in a legally secure manner, provide our residents with advice and support, and guide them towards self-sufficiency.

The Assignment

As a social worker in economic assistance, you are a significant link in the chain towards our common goal of supporting the municipality's residents towards their own sustainable livelihood. Some of the tasks include:

  • Investigating and assessing the right to economic assistance and handling appeals.
  • Mapping individual needs and matching them with appropriate interventions.
  • Establishing individual plans together with the individual.
  • Close collaboration with colleagues in other units and external partners to design the best support for the individual.

Challenges and Opportunities

We are society's ultimate safety net, which means you will encounter residents with various, and sometimes complex needs. The target group is not homogeneous, and the reasons for financial difficulties can vary. It can range from insufficient parental benefits, unemployment, being denied benefits from the Social Insurance Agency, or harmful use. The goal of our work is always to support the resident in achieving their own sustainable livelihood, but the path there can look very different from individual to individual.

We have high expectations of the residents and work towards encouraging them to take responsibility for their life situation while considering their unique needs. This involves a balanced approach between setting demands and motivational work. There will be a higher tempo during application periods that need to be handled with legal security.

What You Need to Bring

For this position, you are required to have a degree in social work or another higher education that the employer assesses as equivalent. Experience and knowledge of working with economic assistance and change processes are meritorious. Since parts of the job involve documentation, you need to express yourself well in both speech and writing. Experience with the Lifecare operational system is also meritorious.

You are aware that a holistic view of residents' situations is required to achieve sustainable livelihoods. You have a positive outlook and believe that all individuals have their own resources, but sometimes need help to see those resources. You possess empathetic abilities but can also distinguish between personal and professional matters.

As a person, you are creative, solution-oriented, and eager to try new ideas. You have a coaching and motivating approach as well as a good ability to collaborate and engage in dialogue. You are self-driven and take responsibility for your work in a structured manner that moves the work forward. You are stable and handle stressful situations constructively. You should have good analytical skills and not be afraid to make independent decisions based on your delegation. We place great importance on personal suitability.

Finally, like us, you find joy in going to work!
