PhD Candidate in Clinical Genetics

Workplace Description
At the Department of Clinical Genetics, several research groups work on questions related to genetics and cancer.
This project focuses on increasing our understanding of the emergence of leukemia and pre-leukemic conditions, as well as how to develop better and more targeted therapies. The work is led by Dr. Niklas Landberg in a newly established research group with close collaborations with several other research groups in the department and the Hematology department at Skåne University Hospital. The research group and the entire workplace prioritize a good working environment with a high priority for a stimulating and balanced workday for all employees. Great importance is placed on personal suitability to maintain good group dynamics. The work will primarily take place at the Biomedical Center in Lund.

Job Responsibilities and Duties
In addition to following the study plan for the doctoral education, as well as participating in relevant courses for the education, the following tasks are also included:
- Handling of primary patient samples
- Laboratory work including single-cell RNA sequencing, ddPCR, CRISPR/Cas9
- Bioinformatics
- Epidemiology
The PhD candidate is expected to actively participate in seminars and other important meetings and present the project at meetings in accordance with the study plan.
The PhD candidate has the responsibility to:
- Seek contact with colleagues who best support a discussion about the results
- Find ways for career support
- Formulate, develop, and optimize the ways of communication with supervisors and colleagues that best promote the doctoral candidate's working methods and moments
Qualifications
Requirements for Employment:
- Personal suitability and compatibility with the research group
- Good collaborative skills with a sense and interest in mentoring students
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
- High degree of accuracy and thoroughness in your work
- High degree of independence in your work
- Very good writing and reading comprehension
- Experience with cell culture
- Experience with library preparation and RNA sequencing
- Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing
- Experience with CRISPR/Cas9
Great importance will be placed on personal qualities. We are looking for someone who is driven, curious, and responsible. Since the research group has an international environment, good communication skills and the ability to collaborate are required. Additionally, the tasks require you to be organized and have the ability to prioritize your work tasks.
Meritorious for Employment:
- Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing
- Experience with flow cytometry
- Experience with digital droplet PCR
- Experience with bioinformatics and statistics
Other
The employment is limited to four years full-time according to HF 5 chap 7§ with a desired start date of January 1, 2026, or by agreement.
Eligibility
Basic eligibility for doctoral education is held by those who have: completed a degree at an advanced level, fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced level, or in some other way acquired equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.
Assessment Criteria
Regulations for employment as a doctoral student can be found in the ordinance SFS 1998:80. Only those who are admitted to doctoral education may be appointed. In the appointment, primary consideration shall be given to the degree of ability to benefit from doctoral education. In addition to the obligation to engage in their own doctoral education, the holder may be required to perform duties related to education, research, and administrative work according to specific provisions in the ordinance.
