Vänerskolan in Vänersborg offers bilingual education in a sign language environment for students from preschool to grade 10. Our students receive instruction in both Swedish sign language and written Swedish. We provide accommodation for those who cannot commute to school every day.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Currently, the school has a permanent substitute who coordinates absence reports and the filling of substitute positions, as well as ensuring that there is teaching material from absent staff. The coordinator also substitutes in the operations as needed.

As a substitute teacher, you should be prepared to step into teaching as a teacher, as a teaching assistant in lessons or in after-school care, as well as a residential supervisor in one of the school's student accommodations. You have direct contact with the substitute coordinator who structures your assignment.

You adapt and design the teaching in accordance with the materials provided by the regular staff.

You document the teaching you are responsible for during the day and provide feedback to the regular teacher/assistant.

You collaborate with colleagues when there is a need for support.

You perform your tasks in Swedish sign language.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who meets the following requirements:

• You have at least one year of documented experience working with children or adolescents.
• You communicate in Swedish sign language.

It is an advantage if:

• You have experience with students with disabilities.
• You have good knowledge of how to teach in a sign language environment.
• You have a good understanding of the school's governing documents.
• You have good knowledge of how to make teaching accessible for each student.
• You have knowledge of and experience in working with language development.
• You have knowledge of the consequences of being deaf/hard of hearing in everyday life.

A criminal record extract must be presented before employment.
