Part-time Assistants Needed for Personal Assistance

Hello! My name is Caroline. I am 43 years old and live in Sundbyberg with my Siberian cat Emmie. I have a congenital physical disability that requires me to have personal assistance around the clock. I have been living with assistance for over 20 years, which makes me confident in how I want my assistance. I am used to leading my assistants. I have a small team of assistants, most of whom have worked with me for a long time. As a substitute, you will be a valuable member of the team.

I am now looking for part-time assistants for my team who can work varying hours. Right now, we are primarily looking for someone who can work evening and night shifts from 5:00 PM to 9:00 AM with sleeping duty from 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM. If you can also work at other times, that is a big plus. The position is on an as-needed basis, and how much you will work varies from month to month. Therefore, it is an advantage if you have a flexible life situation with regular employment. My regular assistants work day and night shifts. However, as a part-time assistant, you can choose to work varying hours if you cannot work day and night shifts.

You who are applying for the position are: a woman, somewhere between 20-60 years old. Age is not the important factor; our personal chemistry and interaction are what matter. You must be at least 18 years old to apply.

You who are applying are calm and secure in yourself. You enjoy being in different environments. You are non-smoker and can move freely. You are not allergic to or afraid of cats. You enjoy working alone.

Being my assistant means you are my extended arms and legs. You step in where my body physically cannot reach. I lead and describe to you how you can best help me. I take personal responsibility for my life and what it should contain. You do not need to worry about that.

Communication between us is incredibly important. Therefore, you need to have a good understanding of the Swedish language for the assistance to be as safe and effective as possible. Being solution-oriented with a good sense of humor is a valuable asset here.

I spend a lot of time at home with my cat. Helping me with my cat is part of the job. Therefore, you need to be comfortable having a cat around and not be afraid to lift or carry Emmie when needed. In my home, the work varies a lot, and you also need to be comfortable being available in the background. During those times, it is perfectly fine to read, study, paint, or do something else meaningful as long as you are ready to help me when I need you.

About me. I enjoy reading, going to the movies and concerts. I like to grab a coffee in town when time and energy allow. I use an electric wheelchair and also have a manual wheelchair. I need help with all practical aspects of life: transfers, dressing and undressing, showering, toilet visits, personal hygiene, assistance with cooking, household chores, etc. All transfers are done with a ceiling lift. It is not heavy or strenuous, but since you need to move a lot to help me, good physical condition and some strength are advantageous.

I am partially fed via a gastrostomy and have a suprapubic catheter. Therefore, we are very careful about hand hygiene here. If you use nail extensions, be prepared for them to break.

Nighttime. To be able to work nights here, you need to be comfortable being awake during the night as there will be a lot of awake time. During the night, I have a ventilator that helps me breathe while I sleep.

You do not need to have previous experience with either the job or assistive devices. All information about my needs and assistive devices will be provided during the introduction you will attend before you start working independently. The important thing is that you are attentive, can take instructions, and are willing to learn.
