Description

The Environmental and Energy Systems department currently consists of 18 employees and is one of four subjects at the Department of Engineering and Chemical Sciences.

We primarily educate bachelor's and master's students in energy and environmental technology. We have a strong interest in pedagogical work, and in the last two evaluations, our education received a rating of very high quality. Our research is focused on sustainable technology development with an emphasis on energy efficiency, biofuel systems, purification technology, and packaging design. We operate based on a value foundation defined by sustainable development, primarily applied in the field of forest bioeconomy. We also run the corporate research school EXACT (Excellence in Advancing for a Circular Transition) together with the subjects of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, and Computer Science.

We now need reinforcement in the subject in the form of a teaching assistant position, which is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable work experience during your studies.

Responsibilities

Your tasks as a teaching assistant in Environmental and Energy Systems include:

• Teaching in the undergraduate program in Environmental and Energy Systems
• Conducting demonstration calculations in the classroom
• Handling on-call situations
• Grading written exams

To contribute to a good working environment and the development of the organization, you will be present and participate in the daily work and community.

Eligibility Requirements

• Admitted to the bachelor's or master's program in Environmental and Energy Systems at Karlstad University and studying in the third year or later, with study time remaining until graduation at least equivalent to the duration of the employment.
• Furthermore, you must have completed the course you are offered to assist in, or an equivalent course, with at least a passing grade.
• Good knowledge of Swedish as the teaching primarily occurs in this language.
• Personal qualities required as below:

We are looking for someone who is flexible and can adapt to changing circumstances. You have excellent collaboration skills, meaning you listen, communicate, and solve problems constructively, and you should be structured, meaning you can organize and prioritize work effectively. Additionally, you should be stable and controlled in stressful situations.

Conditions

The scope of work may vary over time and will be agreed upon but will at least comprise 20% of full-time, with the possibility of extension within the framework of HF5:9§. In total, we have a need for 100 hours of work within the current employment period. Start date is earliest 2025-01-20, until 2025-03-30. The employment may be extended, but in total, it can last no longer than three years, provided that the eligibility requirement is still met.

The salary for the teaching assistant position follows the local collective agreement with a fixed monthly salary.
