Description

The University Pedagogical Unit (UPE), which is part of the university library, supports and stimulates the development of university teachers' teaching competence.

The unit is responsible for providing qualification-giving university pedagogical education and can offer qualified support for the development of educational design through flexible teaching and examination forms. Our mission is to provide active and professional support for quality development in education at the undergraduate, advanced, and research levels. The unit is also responsible for the administration and development of the course evaluation system and the university-wide learning platform Canvas.

The design of the unit's programs and support is based on research on higher education, local and national policy documents and guidelines, as well as discussions and exchanges of experiences both within Karlstad University and within national and international networks. The team consists of eight employees: five IT pedagogues, a project manager, and two education coordinators. In addition, 13 teachers and educational developers from various subject areas also have assignments at the unit ranging from 10-50%.

Employees at Kau are offered the opportunity for a flexible work approach. This means that, if the operation allows, you can work part of your working time remotely. We are now looking for another colleague who, together with us, wants to continue developing the unit's work.

Responsibilities

Karlstad University continuously works on developing digital forms for examination and teaching, and the unit plays a central role in this work. We work closely with teachers, provide support and guidance, conduct teaching, investigate usage patterns, and organize workshops. The responsibility for the administration and development of the Canvas learning platform lies with us, as well as the development and support of other education-relevant systems such as our WordPress multisite Sola and Cloudron. You will work with frontend development and will have a crucial role in our work in developing digital pedagogical special solutions based on WordPress. If you are interested in building digital solutions using the right technology and always strive to deliver quality solutions, you will enjoy working with us!

Qualifications

As a person, you should be; responsive to the needs of the operation, resourceful, and work in solidarity within the group. You are driven and eager to deliver projects with quality. You constantly want to develop in your role as a developer and see a problem as the beginning of something new. Personal suitability, curiosity, and competence are more important than formal education. Speaking and understanding Swedish is a merit but not a requirement.

You should have:

  • At least three years of practical experience as a Frontend Developer and in UX/UI design, focusing on responsive web design.
  • At least a bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, or another relevant field.
  • Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/TypeScript, including experience with modern frameworks like React.
  • Experience in frontend development within WordPress, including developing custom themes and plugins.
  • Experience in providing training or workshops for colleagues and users in the tools you work with.
  • Experience in creating quality code solutions.
  • Experience in working independently but also appreciating collaboration within a team.
  • Experience in integrating various APIs, with a good understanding of how frontend systems interact with backend services.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Experience working with Node.js, including backend integration and full-stack development.
  • Professional certifications in UX/UI design, interaction design, or similar.
  • Knowledge of PHP and experience working with PHP-based systems (especially WordPress).
  • Good SQL skills, including the ability to write effective queries for data retrieval and manipulation, as well as experience in integrating frontend systems with databases.
