We are now seeking a PhD candidate in Mathematical Sciences within the Interdisciplinary Mathematics Research School.

Your tasks
As a PhD candidate, you will engage in your doctoral education and the research projects you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental duties, up to 20% of full-time.

Your research project will be within the Interdisciplinary Mathematics Research School, with a main supervisor from the Department of Mathematics and an external co-supervisor, and you will have the opportunity to develop, analyze, and implement advanced mathematics at the intersection of theory and applications. Your qualifications
You have completed a master's degree or finished courses totaling at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level related to the doctoral subject. These 60 higher education credits must include an independent project (thesis) of at least 30 higher education credits in a subject relevant to the field, or equivalent knowledge acquired in Sweden or abroad. This also includes courses or thesis work in mathematics-oriented applied subjects. The degree requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made, i.e., when the employment contract is signed.

You should have a strong interest in the relevant research area.

You should be driven, ambitious, and have a desire to strive for continuous development. You must also thrive in academic challenges and be motivated to acquire new knowledge and conduct research work. You are expected to work independently, have the ability to take your own initiative, and possess good collaboration skills.

A requirement is that you have a good ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

Your workplace
You will be employed at the Department of Mathematics in either the Algebra, Geometry and Discrete Mathematics or Applied Mathematics divisions. It is an international environment where you will perform teaching and research tasks together with colleagues from around the world.

About the employment

The position is limited to four years full-time. You will initially be employed for one year, and thereafter the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan. Extension of employment up to five years can occur based on the degree of teaching and departmental duties. In special cases, further extension may be granted.
