GIL has coordinated personal assistance since 1989. The cooperative has a heritage from the Independent Living movement, which is based on the principle that those with disabilities know best how they want to live their lives. Normally, the person entitled to assistance is the closest manager of the assistants, or a person with specific knowledge about the individual is appointed.

As a personal assistant, you support a person with a disability to live the life they want to live. To attract and retain competent and satisfied assistants, we invest in training and events. Working hours are usually scheduled from 07:30 to 17:45 or 17:30 to 08:00 (with sleeping on-call from 00:00 to 06:00).

I live with my family in central Gothenburg. During the day, I work at Move & Walk, a daily activity center, and in my free time, I enjoy playing boccia, socializing with friends and family, and much more.

Since I communicate using a letter board, it is important that you speak, write, and understand Swedish well, as you will be interpreting what I say to those around me. I train a lot on the mat on the floor, both at home and at Move & Walk. Therefore, you must be physically fit to help me with my exercises and be positive to motivate me when I get tired. Additionally, I need help with personal hygiene, operating my wheelchair, and much more.

The workplace is smoke-free, and it is an advantage if you have a driver's license, experience with lifts, and previous experience as a personal assistant and/or in healthcare. However, the most important thing is that our personal chemistry matches.

The position starts with a temporary employment, with the possibility of transitioning to a fixed-term contract as long as the assistance assignment lasts, with a 72% employment rate, if we get along well. There is also the possibility to work more hours, as we help each other when other assistants are on leave or sick.
