The role as a nurse

A night shift with us means that you will be part of a night team consisting of seven nurses, together covering the staffing in the ward during the night. There are three nurses on duty each night, and each nurse is responsible for a care team and thus the care of 7-8 patients. All night shifts have the same employment rate (78.43%) and an identical schedule created by the night staff themselves. The schedule runs over an 8-week period and is structured with good time for recovery, a leave of 5 nights, one of 7 nights, and one of 9 nights.

Your future workplace

Medical Care Unit A specializes in hematology and nephrology. The unit also includes the hematology outpatient clinic, divided into a treatment part and a reception part, as well as day care activities within nephrology.

The hematology section investigates and treats blood diseases, both malignant and benign. For example, anemia, leukemia, myeloma, lymphoma, coagulation disorders, venous thrombosis, and pulmonary embolisms. Blood transfusions and cytostatic treatments are common on the ward. Patients who have undergone stem cell transplants in Linköping are cared for by us and then followed up at the hematology outpatient clinic. Hematology patients are often sensitive to infections and are therefore occasionally isolated in special care rooms. The ward performs many bone marrow examinations and blood tests. Many of our patients have central lines that require special handling.

The nephrology section investigates and treats various conditions that can lead to kidney failure. This may include glomerulonephritis, vasculitis diseases, or diabetic nephropathy. We also care for patients on hemodialysis (HD), who are normally managed in outpatient care via the Dialysis Unit, when they experience complications, infections, or for other reasons need inpatient care. Patients who are to start treatment with peritoneal dialysis (PD) also come here. They stay in the ward during the insertion of the dialysis catheter and when starting the treatment. Here, we have a close collaboration with the PD clinic. We also have a small day care unit where we administer cytostatic drugs and monoclonal antibodies, as well as day care in connection with kidney biopsies.

Your profile

We are looking for a licensed nurse who wants to work in a unit that is technically challenging for a nurse, where you can use all your skills. We are looking for someone who longs for a workplace where you can be involved in influencing, where you, together with managers and other colleagues, participate in developing work methods and routines.

You are confident in your role as a nurse and can work independently. Since night work is varied, you need to be good at adapting to changing circumstances. You are stable and work systematically in stressful situations. Having a willingness to help each other is important to us, so we place great emphasis on qualities such as good teamwork and personal suitability.
