Unit Manager for Trädgårdsföreningen and Jubileumsparken
The City Environment Management is responsible for the city's public spaces and overall accessibility. We work to create accessible, attractive, and vibrant urban environments and natural areas. The management owns and operates the tram network in Gothenburg. Approximately 900 people work at the management.
The City Environment Management is part of the urban development administrations in the City of Gothenburg. Together, we work to create conditions for a functioning infrastructure, quality housing and premises, an inviting public environment, and strive for the city to be sustainable from all perspectives.
Job Description
Do you want to be part of building a new operational area for some of Gothenburg's most attractive city parks? We are now looking for a unit manager for Trädgårdsföreningen and Jubileumsparken at the City Environment Management. Both parks have a strong identity that needs to be cared for, managed, and developed towards the goal of making Gothenburg a close, robust, and cohesive city for residents, visitors, and businesses, where participation and openness should characterize the work. The operational area also includes Slottsskogen.
Trädgårdsföreningen in central Gothenburg is one of Europe's best-preserved 19th-century parks and the first park in Sweden to be declared a listed building. Located in the heart of the city, the park is a sea of greenery, an oasis for relaxation and stimulation. Here you will find the water mirror of Vallgraven, the iconic Palm House currently being restored for future generations, period-specific tapestries, and contemporary plantings such as woodlands and Gothenburg's rose garden. The park is managed ecologically, with a pedagogical approach in most activities. Events and activities are recurring features. Together, they create a variety of high-quality experiences for the approximately 2 million visitors to the park each year.
Jubileumsparken is a result of the residents' desire for more green spaces and to be closer to the water. Located at Frihamnen, the city park has been evolving since 2014 in collaboration with the residents, using prototypes as a working method, which has generated significant international interest. There is now an excursion playground, a unique harbor bath, a sauna in the middle of the city, and public activities carried out by the association Passalen. Jubileumsparken is designated as a public meeting place where the participation of children and young people is central.
Your responsibilities include personnel, work environment, and budget management. You are responsible for ensuring a good, sustainable, and healthy work environment for all employees and for operating the business within established financial frameworks and towards set goals. You are responsible for maintaining, managing, and developing Trädgårdsföreningen and Jubileumsparken to create experiences for our visitors. The task includes having a good knowledge of the status and future needs of the facilities, as well as developing and implementing long-term strategies for optimal functionality, economic efficiency, and societal benefit. You plan, implement, and follow up on measures such as reinvestments and preventive maintenance. Your role involves collaborating with various stakeholders.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a university degree in landscape architecture or landscape engineering, or another relevant education as assessed by the employer. You have extensive experience working as a manager, preferably with similar responsibilities for facilities/parks and public activities. The position requires an understanding of urban development in general and the planning, development, and management of existing cities in particular. You have experience in change management, development work, and a process-oriented approach. You have previously worked with cooperation and partnerships and have experience in interacting with the public. You have experience and a good understanding of working in a politically governed organization.
It is also advantageous if you have completed a leadership training program or have experience in developing leadership. We would like to see that you have experience and knowledge of union collaboration and labor legislation.
You take responsibility for your tasks and the common tasks with the best interests of the business in mind. You take your tasks seriously, ensure that what you have started is completed, and ensure that the work is carried out correctly. You listen to other people to understand their needs. You actively seek out the opinions and perspectives of others and are receptive to them by showing respect, consideration, and care. You are a clear and effective communicator who gains support for thoughts and ideas and can influence decisions in a certain direction. You have an interest, willingness, and ability to help others, and you make an effort to present solutions. You seek and seize opportunities to think innovatively, which can be put into practice and lead to improvements. You stay updated through environmental monitoring and regularly reflect on what needs to be developed in your business.
Welcome with your application!
