Unit Manager for Laboratory Virus and Vaccine Surveillance

What will you work with?

You will be the unit manager for the Unit for Laboratory Virus and Vaccine Surveillance within the Department of Microbiology. As a unit manager, you have overall responsibility for ensuring that the unit works in accordance with the agency's overarching goals and assignments. You have personnel and work environment responsibilities as well as budget and operational responsibilities for the unit's overall activities and are part of the department's management team.

  • Together with other managers, being responsible for and promoting the development of the entire organization to meet the needs of the external environment and the agency's assignments.
  • Leading, distributing, and coordinating work within the unit based on a trust-based approach and creating conditions for employees to do a good job by promoting good employee engagement.
  • Inspiring and motivating for development and innovation.
  • Creating conditions for collaboration and dialogue both within and outside the organization.
  • Contributing to the department-wide work and being responsible for and promoting the development of the entire organization to meet the needs of the external environment and the agency's assignments.
  • Preparing budgets and operational plans, as well as following up and reporting results.

Who are we looking for?

Requirements for the position:

  • University degree in natural sciences, medicine, or another relevant subject area for the position.
  • Managerial experience and/or several years of experience in a supervisory role.

  • Knowledge in virology.
  • Knowledge in epidemiology and/or microbial surveillance.
  • Work experience from accredited laboratory operations.

Great importance is placed on:

  • PhD and/or medical degree.
  • Work experience in microbiology and/or molecular biology.

What does the unit do?

The Unit for Laboratory Virus and Vaccine Surveillance is a national WHO laboratory for influenza, polio, measles, and rubella. The unit is responsible for national microbial surveillance of vaccine-related pathogens, such as influenza, SARS-CoV-2, polio, and measles. The unit also regularly conducts immunity surveys focusing on diseases included in the childhood vaccination program.

About the Employment

You will be employed as a unit manager based at our office in Solna. The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period. Start date is 2025-08-01 or as soon as agreed.

As an employee of the Public Health Agency of Sweden, you may be subject to military placement. Some positions are placed in a security class where Swedish citizenship may be a requirement. Security screening will then be conducted in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).

At the agency, there may be an opportunity to enter into an agreement for remote work of up to 40 percent of your working time.
