The deputy unit manager is the representative of the unit manager and assists the unit manager in leading the unit and being the principal. The assignment includes assisting the unit manager in the work of leading, distributing, coordinating, and following up on the organization, operations, work environment, and competence supply in the constitutional law unit. The role includes, among other things, being a sounding board for the unit manager on various issues related to the management of the unit's work. The role also includes having primary responsibility for carrying out certain tasks and functioning as the principal for parts of the legislation that the unit is responsible for. In the principal role, it includes guiding employees, quality assuring materials, and participating in preparations and meetings. The deputy unit manager should be able to step in for the unit manager when needed. The unit manager has personnel responsibility for all employees in the unit. In the role of principal, the deputy unit manager independently manages the employees working on issues for which he or she is the principal. To be successful in the role, you need to thrive in a sometimes fast-paced work environment.

The constitutional law unit is responsible for legislation concerning Sweden's fundamental laws as well as, for example, the Administrative Procedure Act, the Freedom of the Press Act, and the Data Protection Act. Furthermore, the unit is responsible for EU matters and other international issues within these legislative areas. The unit has a staffing of around 17 employees. As a principal and deputy unit manager, you will have a unique opportunity to switch between your various roles and goals as an employee, principal, deputy unit manager, and substitute for the unit manager.

Your background

We are looking for someone with a law degree and several years of experience working in the Government Offices. The role requires experience as a principal for legislative issues and other regulatory work. You need to have very good knowledge of Swedish and good knowledge of English. Previous experience in the unit's subject areas is an advantage. It is also an advantage if you have experience in negotiation work within the EU.

Your qualities

In the role of deputy unit manager, we expect you to be genuinely interested in organizational issues and leadership, and have good judgment and the ability to lead, motivate, and develop competent employees. To succeed in the role, it is essential that you are goal- and result-oriented and have the ability to see the whole picture and think strategically. Since the work is characterized by many collaborative and contact points, it is important that you have very good collaboration skills. The role requires you to be proactive, analytical, and quality-conscious. Furthermore, we are looking for someone who enjoys and sees the value in driving development. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Other

The employment is a permanent position with an initial probationary period of six months. However, the task of being a deputy unit manager usually ends upon the departure of the unit manager. The position is classified in a security class, and a security review with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen but may have a foreign background.
