Department of Archaeology and Ancient History
The Department of Archaeology and Ancient History is one of Sweden's largest archaeological environments.
The department consists of six units: Archaeology, Archaeological Research Laboratory, Numismatic Research Group, Osteoarchaeological Research Laboratory, Ancient Culture and Society, and the Centre for Palaeogenetics. The department conducts research and teaching in several different areas.
The Numismatic Research Group conducts research and teaching in numismatics and aims to place coins in a broader context – economically, politically, administratively, and socially. Publications, both digital and printed, are an important part of the work. Currently, three people are involved in the operation.

Responsibilities
A large part of the work involves publishing writings, both digitally and in print. This includes processing manuscripts and images – layout (InDesign), image processing (Photoshop), and to some extent production of maps (GIS). It also includes proofreading and contact with printing companies, and you will be the main editor for the Numismatic Research Group's website. The role includes providing support to our researchers with data collection and processing, and there will also be opportunities for independent work with the publication of coins and coin finds in collaboration with museums that hold the coins. Our library is another part of the responsibilities where you will be responsible for registering new acquisitions and inventory. Additionally, general administrative tasks such as finance, archives, and purchasing, as well as sometimes coordinating various events. You will also be involved in the relocation of the operation to new premises, expected to take place in 2026/27.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with good IT skills and an interest in developing them. You should have excellent knowledge of the Swedish language and be proficient in English. You should have an academic degree at the bachelor's level in archaeology, history, or another equivalent qualification. You should also have an interest in research.
Experience working with InDesign, Photoshop, and GIS, as well as web publishing and contact with printing companies, is an advantage. It is desirable that you have experience in proofreading and editing various types of texts. We welcome candidates with an interest in history, numismatics, and experience working in museums. Basic knowledge of German or French is also advantageous. You should be self-motivated, meticulous, and have an eye for detail.
About the employment
The position is permanent, full-time, with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date by agreement.
