The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding on, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. JOB DESCRIPTION

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The National Transport Unit's (NTE) task is to transport deprived individuals. This mainly includes correctional clients between detention centers and prisons, as well as to court hearings, medical visits, etc. NTE also transports deprived individuals for example for the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, all Regions and municipalities, and air transport may occur. The varied assignments mean that working hours may differ from day to day.

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction over three weeks. Service and training at another location may occur. This is to conduct training and learn the basics of the operations and client work. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic training, which is mandatory and lasts 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted for your opportunity for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

• A valid driver's license (B) and good driving experience
• A completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
• Good computer skills

It is advantageous if you have:

• Work experience in correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management

OTHER

We have high demands on our employees' awareness of security and confidentiality. A security check will precede the decision on employment. Our positions are placed in a security class, and a security assessment with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. For positions with a higher security class, you need to be a Swedish citizen, but you may have a foreign background.
