The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We Are Building New, Renovating, and Expanding and Now Seeking More Employees

Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transports.

The Luleå area is the northernmost part of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and includes the prisons in Luleå and Haparanda as well as the detention center in Luleå. About 170 employees manage and develop the operations that accommodate 185 inmates. The largest professional group is prison officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. In the prisons, inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or within the prison's wood production. You can easily reach the Luleå prison and detention center by public transport, and if you drive, you can park in our staff parking. The Haparanda prison is a five-minute walk from Haparanda station.

Read more about the Haparanda prison's operations on our website: Haparanda Operations (https://www.kriminalvarden.se/kontakt/hitta-till-oss/verksamhet/anstalt/haparanda/#om)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a prison officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison are varied: care, surveillance, search, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work.

Working as a prison officer means you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

There may be opportunities to work in the area of Other Structured Activities (OSA). This means planning activities and working directly with clients in groups. This could involve various themes such as wellness, culture, or perhaps a study circle.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction over three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic training, which is mandatory and lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted for your opportunity for permanent employment.

In this recruitment, we apply ongoing selection work, and interviews may occur before the application period has passed, so submit your application today!

QUALIFICATIONS
