Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – Summer Interns Wanted!
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and seeking more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.
The Luleå operational area is the northernmost part of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and includes the prisons in Luleå and Haparanda, as well as the remand facility in Luleå. Approximately 170 employees manage and develop the operations that accommodate 185 inmates. The largest professional group is prison officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, and more. In the prisons, inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or the prison's wood production. You can easily reach the Luleå prison and remand facility by public transport, and if you drive, you can park in our staff parking. The Haparanda prison is a five-minute walk from Haparanda station.
We are now looking for summer interns for the Luleå prison and remand facility. The summer period covers weeks 24-35, where we have needs for both the entire period and parts of it. There is an opportunity to start your employment before the summer, as well as good opportunities to work on an hourly basis even after the summer period ends.
Selection and interviews are ongoing, so apply today! Welcome!
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a prison officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison/remand facility are varied: care, surveillance, searches, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. You will be the one to open and lock cell doors, implement isolation-breaking measures with clients, distribute food and medication, and supervise walks. Additionally, searches of premises and clients are part of the daily work. Some administrative tasks are also included in the job.
Working as a prison officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.
QUALIFICATIONS
Your personal qualities are important to us. As a prison officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you will be working with your colleagues to run the operations, you need to have good teamwork skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Good judgment and integrity are required in your professional practice. You should have a physical condition that enables you to act physically when the situation requires it.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment.
- A completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant.
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
- Good computer skills.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services.
- Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
- A valid driver's license (B).
- Relevant language skills.
