About the Role and Your Responsibilities

Tunaskolan's adapted primary school continues to grow! Therefore, we are now looking for you as an engaged and competent educator for the A-track as we expand with an additional class in subject orientation.

In your role at Tunaskolan, you will be a mentor to the students in your class and act as the team leader. The assignment may also involve cross-functional special education tasks. The team includes several student supporters connected to the class. The educator's tasks include, among others:

  • planning, implementing teaching, and assessing and digitally documenting students' learning based on current governing documents
  • collaborating with a colleague in the parallel class
  • mentorship for students in the class
  • leading and distributing the pedagogical work in the team
  • supervising student supporters in the team
  • designing support measures both independently and as needed in collaboration with the student health team
  • continuously collaborating with guardians
  • regularly communicating students' learning in school through, among other things, a digital learning log
  • contacting external actors, such as child habilitation and others
  • actively working to develop and make the learning environment accessible, both pedagogically and socially and physically
  • assisting and supporting with personal care as needed, such as toilet visits, dressing and undressing, meal situations
  • collaborating with educators, student supporters, student health, school management, and other staff
  • being involved in collaboration with the primary school
  • actively driving the school's development work forward

We are looking for you who

We are looking for someone who knows that all students can develop regardless of needs or cognitive level and who can identify where each student is in their learning and develop them further from there. You need to be a primary school teacher with a special education degree focused on intellectual disabilities or an equivalent education. Experience working with children and youth with intellectual disabilities and NPF is a prerequisite, as well as competence in AAC and digital learning tools.

You need to:

  • be secure, stable, and flexible
  • be able to collaborate, create, and maintain relationships
  • be attentive and humble towards students and colleagues
  • have a pedagogical approach tailored to each student's needs
  • be able to meet outwardly aggressive behavior with a low-arousal approach
  • be able to develop and challenge our students regardless of needs or cognitive level

About the Workplace

Here are all the heroes! - said one of our students. It certainly describes Tunaskolan well. Over 750 students in grades F–9 and adapted primary school included attend Tunaskolan. Together with Mårtenskolan, we form the Tuna principal area. We are proud of the diversity we represent and see differences as an asset. Tunaskolan is co-located with Östervångsskolan.

Tunaskolan's professional and proud teaching staff and personnel do their utmost for the students. Our vision is for students to learn now and in the future. For us, this means that we should always know what we are doing and why to enhance students' abilities and competencies. Interaction and collaboration are focus areas at our school to create safety and equity in both the work environment and assessment work.

In the adapted primary school, students with intellectual disabilities attend. Tuna adapted primary school has grades from 1 to 9. The students are divided into stage classes 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9. Our school offers both orientations within the adapted primary school, namely subjects and subject areas. Tuna adapted primary school is organized into three different tracks as follows:

  • Track A: Subject orientation, teaching in a cohesive class
  • Track B: Subject area orientation, teaching in a cohesive class
  • Track C: Subject area orientation, teaching that is more individualized

Tracks A and B operate at Tunaskolan while Track C has its premises at Lilla Tuna. Lilla Tuna is co-located with Mårtenskolan and also has its management, student health, and administration there. The school is located about 1 km from Tunaskolan and also offers after-school activities for lower and middle school. Tracks A and B have after-school activities in Tunaskolan's premises.

Learning and working to make students independent in everyday life are central parts of Tuna adapted primary school. Care can also be an important part of the work with our students.

At the child and school administration, we work to create equity and good conditions for all children and students within our preschools, primary schools, and adapted primary schools to achieve their goals. Together, we work for a uniform and clear governance of preschool and school in a modern and efficient organization, aiming to enable world-class education. Our ambitions are high, and we always strive to create good conditions for development and safeguard high quality in the operations.

To work with children or students within preschool and school, you need to be able to present an acceptable extract from the criminal record.
