Currently, the inpatient care in neurology and neurological care is in a dynamic phase that you will have the opportunity to be part of and influence. For example, we have introduced a development program called the competence and service model (career path) for nurses where you can combine your clinical work with education. In September, we will also move to a new and modern care building at Skåne University Hospital (Sus) in Malmö with new technology that opens up more possibilities to improve care and our work environment. The neurology department is also actively participating in international research and new treatment methods are being introduced. Within the neurology area, several areas for national highly specialized care are conducted. In our units, we are in an exciting phase of developing person-centered care in collaboration with Lund University.

We consist of Neuro-Obs and Neurology Ward 1, where we collaborate to offer our employees the career path and development they are looking for. The most common diagnoses in both units are acute stroke, epilepsy, traumatic brain injuries, and neuromuscular diseases. We care about your work environment and place great emphasis on competence supply and education, where we have regular lectures.

At Neuro-Obs, patients with acute neurological diseases who need extra monitoring and more advanced care, including advanced respiratory care, are treated, including patients with tracheostomy. Neuro-Obs has eight intermediate care places, including thrombolysis places. Each team cares for three to four patients and consists of a nurse and a nursing assistant. Most patients are admitted via the emergency department, but we also receive patients from the intensive care unit (ICU) and other departments within Sus.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

You will work in a multiprofessional team together with doctors, nursing assistants, coordinators, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians, and social workers. Together with the patient and with support from the team, the neurological care is adapted based on each patient's background, conditions, resources, and wishes to promote health. We are proactive in the nursing work to stabilize and rehabilitate patients with neurological diseases.

We are constantly working on development and improvement measures, which means there is room to work within the development areas that interest you.

We have close cooperation between Neuro-Obs and Neurology Ward 1, which is also linked to our move to new premises. Some rotation between the departments may occur, but the majority of your placement will be at Neuro-Obs. Here, acute care and treatments such as thrombolysis and intermediate care are performed. In some cases, you will be part of the acute treatment on-site in the CT lab, in other cases, treatment occurs on-site at the observation unit. You, together with the neurologist, will face situations where you assess that the patient needs further treatment such as neurosurgery or thrombectomy in Lund.

As a new nurse with us, you will be offered an introduction with the possibility of a mentor to support you as needed. Which department you start in will be determined in dialogue and based on your conditions. We want to promote that you, based on your personal development, have the opportunity to work in both units. We will adapt the introduction together with you based on your wishes and conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse with permission to practice within Swedish healthcare. Language skills in Swedish corresponding to at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s level scale are a requirement.

Furthermore, we would like you to have an interest in neurology. You also have good collaboration skills and enjoy working in a team, while being able to work independently and make your own decisions. Additionally, we value that you have a good attitude towards both colleagues and patients and that you contribute to our good work environment. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.
